Why only one Radiohead song (Paranoid Android)? If you're going to add them, at least put the whole Ok Computer album up.

I also think some songs off "Quadrophenia" by the Who could certainly be regarded as progressive, espicially the song of the same name.

What is with Particle Man?? How did that song get in any range of appearing here? Don't get me wrong- I love They Might Be Giants. But that is just plain weird.

Sometimes I'll just add tracks to be wierd, and to have some fun. Plus, I thought Particle Man was kinda progressive - the lyrics anyway.

Moody Blues - my favorite Moody song - "Isn't Life Strange"

Yes - It's amazing to me how people will differ on little things. I'm glad UNION was added, but two of the four best songs were left out. Please add "Holding On" and "Shock to the System." These, along with "Silent Talking" and "The More We Live - Let Go" are easily the best on UNION. Being a completist, I'd like the rest of Union to go up as well, "Dangerous" and "Without Hope You Cannot Start the Day." The latter I really like as well. Oh, and "Give and Take" while you're at it.

Iona - If Enya is progressive, the Iona is the greatest prog band of all time. If you like good Irish prog rock with Sax's, flutes, pipes, Chapman Stick, and 10+ minute songs, Go with some Iona.

Okay, so I'd like very much to here something (preferably everything ;-) from 'Nightingales and Bombers' by Manfred Mann's Earth Band (1975).

Also, PFM's 'Chocolate Kings' album is outstanding (1975).

And, I join Yesspaz in suggesting the songs from 'Union' by YES.

Speaking of YES, I got to tell you that they will be visiting Sweden in November! It will be my first YES consert!! I just can't wait!!!

I just discovered your awesome catalog of disc's. I see the Gentle Giant and the Passion song. If you like Al DiMeola and Jean Luc Ponty you'll like VERTU (features Stanley Clarke, Lenny White and others). The Pat Methany Disc is a natural for symphonic prog lovers with a Jazzy world beat thing going on!
BTW, I'm not getting any work done, I'm too busy listening to the GREAT Music!

I would love to see Wakeman's No Earthly Connection, White Rock, and Criminal Record played on this station and the rest of King Arthur while your at it. ;)

Also , I have recently had a hieghtend interest in the Flower Kings and would like to see their entire catalog here as well.

Lets have more early Genesis (pre Trick of the Tail), Yes , Jethro Tull, Peter Hammill (I would say that, wouldn't I), Van Der Graaf and Van Der Graaf Generator. Also how about some of the original Lone Star ( eg Bells of Berlin from "firing on all six") and Refugee (from their eponymously titled 1974 album).

You might also try some current Radiohead, either from Kid A, or the new CD - Amnesiac.

I've ripped Gentle Giant's Interview, Octopus, Three Friends, and Power and Glory, so they should make it to the station soon.

More Moody Blues (inlcuding "Isn't Life Strange) will be added in the next few weeks.

Iona and Vertu sound interesting, but are new to me - I'll try to check 'em out.

Sorry about the exclusions from Yes - Union - that was my decision to leave those songs out since I don't care for them. Sounds like there's enough support for them, so I'll add them when I get caught up.

I'll probably add some Pat Metheny, but I don't own Secret Story...

Someone requested early Genesis - I'll be adding the Lamb (studio version), other than that I don't think we're missing anything...

Just got back from OneFest in Memphis (one of those gargantuan Christian music festivals). Incredible. The spiritual aspect I'll comment on elsewhere, for this is not the forum, but the music...

I saw Iona for the first time (don't let the fact that their a Christian bands scare you off). Sweet! They began with a 6 minute instrumental with intricate guitar work, Irish bagpipes, flute, keyboards, drums, and bass. After which, the lead vocalist, a woman, says in her Irish accent and best Southern drawl, "Hi, Ya'll," much to the delight of the crowd. Southerners usually hate it when non-Southerners say stupid things like that when they play the South, but because they came across the ocean for this, it was great!

The bass player frequently used some sort of metallic object to strike the strings. Weird. It was like a metallic funk finger. After three songs of "normal" length, the lead singer said, and I paraphrase, "This is our last big show for quite a while so I hope you're enjoying it. We're heading back to Ireland tomorrow, because I'm gonna be havin' a baby (pronounced beh-bay in that Irish accent)." Cheers. "Well, some of you who are familiar with out music know that some of our songs can tend to be a little drawn out. This next one is a 13 minute epic piece." Very nice. They followed that with a keyboard/flute instrumental. Then I had to run across Shelby Farms to make the start of the Stavesacre set at Hilltop Two, so I didn't see the erst of the set, but what I saw was incredible - the only out and out prog rock band at OneFest.

For those who care about such things, Stavesacre was one of the two highlights of the Fest for me (they've been compared to Tool on more than one occasion, altough they are not as dark as Tool). I was right in front of the stage acting like a fool for 75 minutes, singing every word. Intense. The Choir was my other highlight, as they unleashed their ethereal alt/prog (bless 'em). I also throughly enjoyed Jacobstone (Radiohead, U2), Cush, 238, Project 86, P.O.D., Ransom Tree, lots of hardcore, participated in a Drum Circle with my drummer friend Tony Abercrombie of Ransom Tree, and saw what has to be the weirdest band ever - Psalters. Percussion galore, loops, cello, violin, percussive rhythm oriented acoustic guitar, and a dj. Not the scratch kind - the loops and weird effects Chemical Bros. kind. Whack, but fun. Oh, and hanging out with five of my best friends for four days with those wonderful all access passes to get into trailers to get free water and all that. Man, being on the cerw of a band at a music fest rocks. I'll shut up now. Yesspaz out.

More suggestions...Tangerine Dream's Force Majeur and Exit (albums), Triumvirat's Illusions on a Double Dimple and Spartacus (also albums), and if you're feeling really ambitious, how about Tull's Passion Play...it may be the most progressive thing that they did...I saw that tour in 73, and I might also suggest cutting out "The Hare That Lost His Testicles"...without the visuals from the concert, it interrupts a good concept.

Rare Bird? I have to admit I haven't heard of them (and I'm pretty old :-))- if you can point me to some clips, I'll check 'em out. Tull's Passion Play will be added, I just haven't gotten around to that one yet. More Tangerine Dream is likely, but I need to sort through because I don't like their spaciest stuff as much as the rest. PFM is good, I'll probably buy more of their albums one day. Triumvirat - Pompei and Old Loves are already there - I'll add more if I can find it cheap enough.

Here's a bit of esoterica, but I think it'll fit around here: "Everything Under The Sun" - the three part finale of Extreme's 1992 album, "III Sides to Every Story." (The individual tracks are titled: 1. Rise 'N Shine, 2. Am I Ever Gonna Change, 3. Who Cares)

I've also heard there's a new TransAtlantic studio album slated for sometime this fall for those of you who dig SMPTe... ;)

I've noticed that there is little or no Procol Harum on the request list. If you can only add a few tracks, be sure to include "Repent Walpurgis" and "Whiter Shade of Pale" (duh, hehe).

I would also love to hear some Hawkwind on AM, too. Their first 5-7 albums would probably suffice, but my personal fave is "Warriors On The Edge Of Time." Now, if that title ain't prog, I guess I don't know what prog is!

BTW, there is a new Transatlantic album releasing soon, if not already, entitled "Bridge Across Forever." WOOHOO!

A great addition would be the first three Genesis live albums. "The Knife" off Genesis Live, "The Cinema Show" off Seconds Out, and "Fountains of the Salmacis" off 3 Sides Live are excellent, especially with the added percussion in the last two with Chester Thompson, definatly a different twist on the original tunes.
I think the live version of "Lamb Stew" would also be great, I beleive a good version of that is on the 1976 Burbank boot, it will give AM listeners a good idea of the "Collins" rendition of "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway".
"Ladytron" from Roxy Music's first album would be nice, and the cover of "Watcher of the Sky's/Firth of Fifth" by Transatlantic would also be great, I beleive that is on the Transatlantic Live in America CD or a boot.
AM is without a doubt one of the best radio stations out there. Keep it up!:)

How about Todd Rundgren's UTOPIA? Surely the first album, and 'RA' would fit....Also, some of the 'TODD' album, and some of 'Initiation '(Born to Synthesize, for instance) would augment the element of suprise, while fitting in to the general tone-color (which, I might add, is pretty colorful around here! Keep it up!).

The addition of classical music on AM was very disappointing. Going from Genesis to Beethoven was tough to swallow. I like classical music but I did not expect it on a Progressive "ROCK" Site. I think AM should be up for a name change, you are no longer a Progressive "Rock" Site, but a Progressive Music Site. :confused:

I'd like to second Powerslave's suggestion for adding Hawkwind to the site. Not only the first 5-7 (Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music is almost as good in my mind as Warriors on the Edge of Time ) albums, but at least Chronicles of the Black Sword from thier days of collaborating with Michael Moorcock.

We're a progressive rock site - nothing has changed. Through and through. (a few classical pieces, which make up 0.1% of our playlist, does not change that fact!)

But Jim and I thought that, in the 4500 pieces of progressive rock that we have, a handful of classical music, played once in a blue moon, would be refreshing. Kind of a way to cleanse your palette, and give you a perspective on where progressive rock came from (and where all of your favorite bands steal from!) I think it's a great way to open your minds and get a fresh perspective. Don't expect to hear it very often, but I like a short quick change of pace.

All music is related, and progressive rock has definite, hard ties to classical music, jazz, jazz fusion (which we also play a smattering of), psychedelia (can anyone say Gong?), and classic rock. As we paint the picture that is progressive rock, don't be surprised if the brush strokes go to the edges.

If enough people really hate it, we can always remove it.

Avian presented our argument for a limited amount of classical music on AM - we talked about it before we went ahead and added it. I have one more point to make - Mozart rocks! Listen to the first movement of the 40th symphony and tell me otherwise. That rocks more than many of the ballad type pieces from Genesis and others, IMO.

:eek: Doh! You two cleary tore me up on that response. Good Job! Although, that was not the resonse I was looking for. You were suppose to say " This guy's right, lets loose Bethoven!" Hehehe! j/k! Very Good points though. You are right, some classical music does "rock," and most progressive rock is classically oriented (for example: John McLaughlin loved Stravinsky during the Mahavishnu day's and ELP...there would be no ELP without classical music!). I think it is the absence of rock in classical music that brought me to my previous opinion. I must admit, upon hearing the 9th Symphony I thought the format of my favorite music station had entered a slow death. Thanks for reassuring me that this is not the case!

When Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring' was first performed, the audience, so moved, commenced to tear the theatre apart piece by piece! Now that's Rock & Roll! Not to mention 'Paganini', who could dislocate his fingers, so as to reach certain notes, and played with such speed, that people said he must've been demon-possesed (He was also known to make animal & donkey noises with his violin, to irk certain dignitaries in the front-row seats: Much like Eddie VanHalen, or Adrian Belew!). It's the attitude, and just as Rock & Roll will never die, perhaps it was never actually born either. It's always been with us, in some form. Keep the Beethoven. Thanx!

Classical music that rocks, eh? If that's the plan for classical on AM forget all that other stuff I suggested except for the Egmont Overture by lovely, lovely Ludwig Van. It will more than likely get all the hooligans ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence (hehe). I strenuously suggest this overture for a little classical thunder!

As far as Hawkwind, Kurt, Black Sword is a good album too (but I always thought "Needle Gun" was a little cheesy). I don't think Moorcock was involved in making the album (as he was for Warriors on the Edge of Time), the band just wrote an album about his literary works. Correct me if I'm wrong. BTW, I would really like to get "Quark, Strangeness and Charm" and "Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music" on CD. Do you have any idea where I could find them?

One final question: Are there any plans to put "The Light" by Spock's Beard on the playlist (or at least all of it sans "The Water"--I realize the language gets a little filthy)? This album really rocks, and I think it would be a great addition.

They collaborated on at least 3 and possible 4 or 5 albums if I remember correctly. I read (and just reconfirmed through a google search) that the collaboration on Chronicles of the Black Sword went so far as Moorcock providing narration between the songs during the road tour and mimes acting out the various parts (Elric, etc.). The Live Chronicles album supposedly includes all this that didn't make it into the studio album.

Oddly enough, I've never heard any of the songs from either the studio or live album of Chronicles :rolleyes: It's one of the few I couldn't get a cassette copy of. By the time I heard about and got into Hawkwind, you could only find albums in the Imports section of the record stores if you were very very lucky.

I haven't had any luck finding CDs of those albums either.

I have just discovered your site recently, and I am absolutely hooked. Proving to be a tremendous resource as I rebuild my Progressive collection...on CD this time. Keep up the great work.

1. Genesis Live - absolute must...first Progressive album I ever bought..best $3.99 (in the bargain bin in 1975) I ever spent.

2. Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure - another must...their most Progressive work I think.
