View Full Version : The Origin of Species (band names)

OK. Since I was lambasted so for making my
last quizzie too hard (but it was thought provoking
wasn't it?), I'm making this one -- or at least a
few bits of it -- REALLY easy.

The moon has many interesting bands with some
very interesting names. Below imply the origin
of the band's name. Name the bands.

1. trippy song lyric: Tangerine Dream: moses
2. sci-fi show episode: Spock's Beard: JamForte
3. middle-earth history: Marillion: KeithieW
4. words not drawn from a hat: Barclay James Harvest:teermin8r
5. blues men: Pink Floyd: Yesspaz
6. far from these things (or perhaps a cat): Procol Harum: ProgDirJim
7. J.R.R. Tolkien novel progenitor: Iluvatar: RickandRoll
8. seed drill inventor: Jethro Tull: JamForte
9. horrific vision of a mutated future race: Eloy: Bob Lentil
10. a space man: Klaatu: moses

#3 and #7 could both be Iluvatar or Marillion if I have to pick I'd say

#3 = Marillion (Silmarillion)
#7 = Iluvatar (The creator in Silmarillion

I think it's Keith, Jam, and me each with one.......

Doesn't say anywhere that it was the title of the
episode. Read the Spock's Beard website about
the derivation of the name (if it's still there, it has
been sometime since I've visited it).

Not something that should be a source of pride, but I know all of the words to the original episodes. (Forget about the next generation - trying to pass off Patrick Stewart as French is way in space).

I have seen the part of that website - they only say that was from the episode where he wore a beard. That's like Casey Kasem giving you info on Prog History.

I realize it's only a portion of a question, and in the scheme of things it's unimportant, but you phrased it like that was the name of the episode. They got the name from a character, not an episode. There's a distinct difference.

There - I feel better now.

Your #9 answer is interesting but not it.

Novel, a film, and a recent film remake. I've not

5. blues men: Pink Floyd: Yesspaz

VAX it would help if all of the clues were together. I keep scrolling back to the beginning, and it's hard to figure out what's been guessed or left.

the clue is "trippy song lyric" and Thor guessed a band - Moody Blues. He also guessed Porcupine Tree. Seems to me he guessed a band name.

OK so #4 is a European band, but presumably not Italian since VAX didn't say "right country." But he's being sneaky about it.
