We are going to travel around the world - although I don't claim that it would be the cheapest ticket ... in terms of miles covered.
Each leg of the journey (or finishing point) is implied by a musical hint.
Places might be in the artist, song, album title or lyric - or even just implied.
I think that eveything is on the moon playlist - or at least common knowledge.
we'll start really easy .. and maybe get harder...
1. If you came softly (or maybe banging a gong) by camel caravan from hatfield & the north ... it would sound to me as if you were heading for our starting point.
Canterbury - Yespaz
2. Having indulged magnificently, we decide to go further afield - should we take a ride with Mr Hackett (Steppes) , or soar with Messrs Howe, Anderson, Wakeman, Bruford and Squire? (Siberian Khatru)not exactly - for this place we should play strip poker with Annie.
Mother Russia - Rennaisance
Russia - VAXman
3. It could it be that this exploit left us a little red-in-the-face or was it just our hurry(Rush) to buy a ticket? ... either way it was almost quarter past nine (21:12)by the time we took our seats on the train to our next destination.
A passage to bangkok - Rush
Bangkok - progdirjim
4. Go west young man! (although dollars are not the native currency here, they will still take them)... we take shufftie at the storms (to watch the storms) and decide to cross the tallest mountains on this trail rather than travel by sea.
The Silk Road - Steve Hackett
The Silk Road - KeithieW
5. A meandering trip next: first with Keith & friends to a holy city.. (Jerusalem) then to Gamalon's desert... dropping by to hear PC singing (oxymoron?) (sun) in the night (morocco) but actually... we fancy a little sun and, rather than wait for a break in the weather, we head across the water to break a stick (with a brick) in the sand at our destination.
San Tropez - Pink Floyd
San Tropez - KeithieW
6. ... We asked if we'd need keys for this travel.. and the answer came back in the affirmative - but to find our next position you'd have to reverse one the chap's solo efforts. [start and end for one point].
Journey to the Centre of the Earth - Wakeman
Iceland - Sneffels and Italy - Mount Etna - KeithieW
7. The longest leg of our journey takes us not to Jean-Luc Ponty's forest (Amazon).. but a little further north with Eithne.
Orinoco flow - Enya
Orinoco/Venezuela - progdirjim
8. O sweet Morpheus, No Red Nightmare I pray.. something more restful and less primary in hue...(tangerine dream) which leads us to a place neither North, Nor South but which is purportedly connected with the demise of creatures (dinosaurs)from a song by the band we first thought of...
Tangerine dream - Yucatan
Supposedly, a meteor impact here resulted in a winter that killed the dinosaurs.
Yucatan - progdirjim
9. ...for a little theatrical entertainment we would then head to a place in which the young Ovis (lamb)takes some repose (in the form of a doze? it's not clear.)
Lamb Lies Down On Broadway - Genesis
Broadway - KeithieW
10. At the end of our journey we find a band (Kansas), a center (of the USA)and (hopefully) a beer with the boss (Avian)(perhaps we stroll down a highway of maybe ocher/ochre surface).
Kansas - progdirjim
TEEE HEEE

Yes VAX.. we do go via Jerusalem .. but that's not the final destination in this leg.
progdirjim
04-14-2004, 11:40 PM
7 - Orinoco in Venezuela, maybe via the Amazon rain forest
and 10 must be Kansas (follow the yellow brick road...)
#6 I understand the clue but not sure I have the right song - maybe Australia?
8 - central America - Belize or wherever Jurassic Park was supposed to be...
3 - Bangkok (the only train song I could think of offhand)
JamForte
04-15-2004, 04:22 AM
progdirjim ..is on a roll .. and certianly on the right lines for #8 .. but think band & music chaps.. although I tried to make the geography (mostly) logical ..
KeithieW
04-15-2004, 04:35 AM
It has to be "The Silk road"
Steve Hackett Watching the Storms album.

Much too busy today, and it's a shame - a beautiful quiz.
hint to Mr. Fortissimo - don't give the clues away too soon (like your fellow Englishman with the initials Keith Waye). A quiz should be savored.....or you could squeeze every last drop of blood out of it (like VAX).
Enjoy!
KeithieW

New York............specifically Broadway.
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.
Ovis=sheep :)

#8 - Tangier
Dinosaur off of Thhrak, then Sartori In Tangier from Beat!
OOOOOHHH ONE!
JamForte
04-15-2004, 10:52 AM
OK.. jim & rick have both sussed the creature...
but you still need to find the band...
Good thinking Rick .. I'd hate to be premature...
not tangier
Yesspaz :1
Vaxman :1
Prodirjim:3
KeithieW :2
and Keithie's heading up on the inside....
Rick and Roll
04-15-2004, 10:54 AM
King Crimson? I looked up tangier and it fits the clue - aren't we looking for places?
progdirjim
04-15-2004, 12:07 PM
then #6 is either the Sahara - from "The Sahara of Snow" - or Siberia from "Springtime in Siberia" - as Bruford has a song "Back To The Beginning"
Rick and Roll
04-15-2004, 12:12 PM
On #5, you don't mean the band Gamalon do you?
JamForte
04-15-2004, 12:14 PM
#8 tangier doesn't fit all of the clue... you need to find *another* band...
#6 there are two places implied by the answer to this .... a start and an end. Get one and you will aoutomatically get the other.
.. Looks like I didn't make it hard enough....
:D ;)
JamForte
04-15-2004, 12:17 PM
#5 sorry rick .. a speeling eeroor
- apologies.
... but it's only scenery.. part of the journey.. so doesn't alter the destination.

#8 something by Tangerine Dream? (Morpheus)
Rick and Roll
04-15-2004, 12:23 PM
#5 PC is Phill Collins, that took me awhile! He "sings" on "Sun In The Night", on Moroccon Roll - so are we in Spain, maybe gilbraltar (across the water)?
progdirjim
04-15-2004, 12:23 PM
if Rick is right on Tangerine Dream, Yucatan?

or more simply,Morocco, which is across the water from jerusalem and the Gamala desert...
progdirjim
04-15-2004, 12:24 PM
I had gotten the Phil Collins, but I was thinking solo instead of Brand X...
Rick and Roll
04-15-2004, 12:26 PM
Morocco is indeed across the water from Jerusalem - but like way cattycorner..
JamForte
04-15-2004, 12:30 PM
Now you're fishing .. rick ;)
Correct on sun in the night.. morocco
Yesspaz :1

jerusalem .. (gamalon) morocco .. and then across the water...

Roswell, NM - fromBirdsongs of theMesozoic - All's Well that ends well in Roswell - they have several dinosaur themed songs

I am defiecient on my Tangerine Dream. I could have researched it, but the time I'm spending even attempting this shows my foolhardiness in trying to work and play concurrently. I did research to get Tangier..... but it was a wasted effort:eek:
I had to research to find that Morphues was a dream god - i know a lot about silly trivia, but not much on literature, religion, and science fiction.
Since I'm also an accountant and not a technical geek, why do i like prog???

I don't think profession has anything to do with your taste in music. I actually know a technical geek that likes rap, and one of the sales droids at a place I used to work loves prog.
I guess it just goes to show you have impeccable taste in music.

KeithieW
04-19-2004, 01:26 PM
So would it be Iceland - Sneffels and Italy - Mount Etna?

nope .. sorry Jim, 'tis not ..
you are all in the right general geographical area (in your answers that is, rather than real life).
:D
progdirjim
04-19-2004, 05:24 PM
then the Canary Islands - Canarios? (I know I'm reaching now...)
JamForte
04-19-2004, 05:27 PM
not canary isles...
... a vocalist might find this question easier to answer than someone who declared that they were not terribly interested in lyrics...
progdirjim
04-20-2004, 11:59 AM
Malaga? from Malaga Virgen, Brand X song on Moroccan Roll...
or India, due to the Sanskrit lyrics.
Jim, taking the shotgun approach again....
JamForte
04-20-2004, 01:36 PM
... Of course .. then there's the disadvantage of having such an amazingly wide knowledge of the genre .. so many possibilities...
nope.. that volley not on the mark ..
Rick and Roll
04-20-2004, 01:58 PM
we should have Keith and Jim fight in jello or something like that.
The stick in the sand seems to be the inportant clue............
JamForte
04-20-2004, 02:07 PM
I'm saving the jello/jelly in the case that KW catches up.. :D ;)
although ... on reflection .. wet-suits & custard has a certain appeal ....

Actually, I prefer Semolina or Tapioca.
Which reminds me.........do you know how they start the Milk Race?
Sago:D
Rick and Roll
04-21-2004, 12:28 PM
The key here is "breaking a stick in sand". It is obviously a reference I do not understand (as evidenced by my whopping performance on this quiz:rolleyes: ).
Jello intermission is now over
progdirjim
04-22-2004, 02:12 PM
could it be Tangier? from Sartori in Tangier? I know Rick guessed that, but it was for a different question. Sartori could mean "broken stick in sand" for all I know...
JamForte
04-23-2004, 06:28 PM
no not Tangier...
... and rick is (once again) leading in the right direction ... although there is more in the clue than that...
JamForte
04-26-2004, 07:47 AM
OK...
(a) it is in europe.. (you'd all got that)
(b) the band is european ...
(c) in my opinion (although I might be shot down in flames for this) this track is out of the band's usual style [the shooters might argue there is no such thing as the band's usual style]
(d) ... so you need to settle down and 'gather your far-flung thoughts together' and have another go ..

#11 We have quaffed our beer at the boss's and our eyes turn towards the land of Crimson, Camel and co... however we get distracted - we heard "sun in the night" earlier ... and decide that such a sight would be worth a look ...
