well, bowing strings to be more correct.

On Aural Moon, there are at least 20 different violin or cello players. Name them.

BUT here's the rules of this question: I'm not declaring a winner if someone names more of them then someone else. The winner must name at least 20. So, give a partial answer at your own risk. You might be helping a competitor.

Also, the answer must be a true string player. Ian Anderson playing violin on "Thick As A Brick" doesn't count.

I'll give you the freebie - Jean Luc Ponty. That's one. GO!

Nash the Slash - FM - Black Noise (V)
Ben Mink - FM, but on Rush's "Losing It" (V)
Anna Sofi-Dahlberg - Anekdoten (C)
Greg Hiser - Boud Deun (V)
Matthew Parmenter - Discipline (V)
Jerry Goodman - Dixie Dregs (V)
Allen Sloan - Dixie Dregs (V)
Jean Luc-Ponty - himself, Zappa (V)
Darryl Way - at least on Tull's "Heavy Horses" (V)
Geoff Perry - Gamalon (V)
Ray Shulman - Gentle Giant (V)
David Cross - King Crimson (V)
Robbie Steinhardt - Kansas (V)
Alan Morse - Spock's Beard (C)
Tuukka Helminen - Alamaailman Vasarat (C)
Marko Manninen - Alamaailman Vasarat (C)

and the violin guests:

Judy Garf - in Djam Karet's "Lights Over Roswell"
Kevin Burke - on Kate Bush's "Violin" (what a stretch!)
John Shaehan - on Kate Bush's "Jig of Life"
Chris Gaugh and Brian Hale - on Fish's "Perception of Jeremy Punter"

That's 21. I could be a real d@#* and list all of the players in Echolyn's "All Ways The Same" but I hope that will do.

Checking to see if Am Vas in on the playlist.....

They're not! So...

Joe Dupre - on the Evolution of Jazzraptor's "Cat's Got Nine"

(21-2+1) There's 20. Phew!

wow, you had a few I didn't. There maybe one or two I'd take exception too, but I thought we had AV on the playlist and was counting them, and since you got a few valid ones I wasn't thinking of, I declare Rick the winner.

Surprised no one mentioned Eddie Jobson, or either of PFM's violinists. I also had the 3 guys from ELO in mind, and there's an Italian band Armonite with 2 violinists...

and Spaz, as far as the Godspeed crew - maybe I didn't say it explicitly, but I was asking for musicians, not industrial noise generators...
