Here's one while we wait...

What do these bands/artists have in common - that I'm thinking of, although I'd doubt there's much more in common with ALL of them other than this thing.

The Beatles
Jethro Tull
Sylvian & Fripp
Peter Gabriel
Phish
Beastie Boys
Steely Dan
The Pixies
Bob Dylan

Obviously not all of these bands are on the Moon.

I expect the answer is staring me in the face and I'm going to kick myself when it comes out.

The only thing I can get is that I can buy music by all of them on Amazon. :D

It seems too early for a clue, so I don't have one for you yet.

If they all recorded for Capitol Records, I was not aware of it.

they've all used a sitar on a recording?

That's a very interesting guess, Jim. I'm not aware of a Pixies song or a Bob Dylan one with a sitar though. Nor Phish or Beastie Boys, for that matter. It doesn't mean there hasn't been one, but that wasn't the answer I was looking for.

(Note that I said it was an interesting guess, not a close one... Except for the "they've all" part.)

They've all been praised by critics? Ok that was lame, but I'm feeling goofy today, so watch out!

I was busy watching out for Yesspaz's goofiness yesterday, but today I'm ready to give a clue.

The answer has less to do with the artist and more to do with their song(s).

I could also add The Flower Kings to that list, along with plenty of others.

Well Marianne was always up to some MONKEY business wasn't she?

eg:
Peter G - Shock the Monkey
Jethro Tull - Steel Monkey
Flower Kings - Monkey Business

Well that's all I could come up with from the playlist.

Peter Gabriel - Shock the Monkey
Phish - Sleeping Monkey
Beastie Boys - Brass Monkey
Steely Dan - Monkey in your Soul

name the King's X tune with a sitar!

Yesspaz
08-01-2004, 08:32 PM
There are two King's X songs with sitar. The one you're probably alluding to is "Not Just for the Dead." The other is "Out of the Silent Planet" (although it may be an effect - maybe a Danelectro sitar pedal).

...I believe it's time to add these songs in line for future BrainRocks. "Great bass-line on Out of the Silent Planet."

;)

Those songs would be better to ease the non-Kx fan in (Pleadies is one too).

Is that a request?
I've got Johnny kicking off BrainRock this week (8-3 and 8-4). That's a good one to meet King's X by also.

Darth Maul? Didn't he die in one of the first two episodes? Is that why he's not in episodes 4-6?

That, or perhaps he didn't fully consider the effects of the aging process on his tattooed face, and now doesn't appear in public.

Or maybe he fell asleep with those yellow contacts in one too many times, damaged his eyes, and can no longer wear contacts. Again, he refuses to be seen in public with his bifocals on but can't see without them.
