Thanks for posting this. I am not that familiar with the music, but have liked what I've heard on AM. Might think about that March 30th show, but that means being out late on a "school night" and it's two hour drive back home. Hmmm..still...

To get an idea of the crowd, please read my review in the Vai thread. If the gig is at a nightclub, it's worth it to get close - the rhythm section is astounding, and Ed and John are fun to watch.

However, there are some real losers who see this great band. Watch out for the stoners and the extreme drunks. They can very distracting. Even if you stay off to the side, there are the hippie Dead/Phish/Hornsby dancers. They are very detracting from the experience.

Grab a center floor spot, or if there is an upstairs, a railing spot. Use your female powers to persuade others to let you grab a prime spot. You will love the band.

Rick,

I read your review after I had posted here. I will have to think about it. I will be going by myself and am rarely in the mood to deal with drunks. Plus, I am short and that does make it harder in a crowd. I wish my little brother still lived near me, 'cause he would he go with me! Don't have any friends that like the same music as I do.

Nadina - still laughing about the "female powers" bit!!!

Don't want to keep you from seeing an awesome band....I hate to go places alone, but I had to for this show. As long as you time it such that you spend as little time as possible waiting, you should be able to ignore the a holes.

Let us know if you go.

Thanks for the review.
I'm not especially familiar with OT, just what I've heard on AM. Looking forward to hearing more, and probably buying CDs at the show.
The venue for the Milwaukee show usually has a pretty good crowd, except for that one idjit who wants to smoke fat cigars all night. (I hope he reads this.)
The only down side -- I'll miss the Rickter Scale.

A fair trade:) ...and there's always the repeat.

Listening to "Pungent Efflugent" as we "speak". Get that after "Erpland".

Ozric Tentacles show was really great last night (3/27, Milwaukee). The crowd was good -- really into the music. OT expects most people to stand or dance, so the venue removed the seats normally in front of the stage. Didn't notice anyone get too obnoxious. Perhaps that means I was the only obnoxious one.
Only one small complaint. The mix on the flute was low. I couldn't hear it much of the time. And the synthesizer was a bit overpowering.
Other than that, the show was much what I imagine a good LSD trip should be. We arrived early and did get good seats, even if not too near the stage. My wife, who hadn't heard any OT up to that point, nearly fell asleep. That's a really good thing, she was simply letting the music wash over her -- no drugs, either. Honest.
The warm up band, Lotus, from Philadelphia, was good. A sort of electronic-Steely Dan-Phish. This, however, was their final show with OT.
I don't know OT enough to give a detailed review of songs and such. I'll just say the guitar shreds were something to behold, and the bass and percussion were amazing.

Rick: Thanks for the tip on Erpland.

glad it was a great time. John's flute is never too loud. He purposely keeps it away from the mike, and 1/2 the time he's just messin around. Wow too much synth. Notice how Ed plays the tough synth? He's the man.

I liked Ed's keyboard play. The other synthesized effects are what I thought were over the top for sound mixing.
And even when John was featured on flute, the sound was off a bit (could be the hall, not the best venue in town for acoustics).
Again, minor complaints, and in all, a really excellent show.
