Well... hello everybody...

Von Babasin here from ONOFFON. Happy holidays!!!!!

Some of you know me - some of you don't - I'm a 50 year old bassist from L.A., son of one of the greatest bassists in jazz history, Harry Babasin.

So, here's an interesting observation. In April, our group, ONOFFON, was fortunate enough to actually win the title of IOM's 2005 "Artist of the Year". The fact that we won an award is indeed an honor for us. Our genres of music don't necessarily top the charts. But, that's not what makes it interesting. The thing is, it was given to us on the merits of a CD we released in 1999. Six years after its release. I think that illustrates the promotional challenge we as independent artists all face.

Now, ONOFFON's composition "The Gift Must Always Move" has been nominated as Song of the Year by the UNSIGNED Music Magazine. This is their first annual awards so this is a very special nomination for us. This time, the nomination is on a song from our first CD, released in early '97. Almost nine years later.

If you are so inclined, now through the end of the month, you can visit this page -

http://www.unsignedmusicmag.com/awards.html

- and vote for "The Gift Must Always Move" as Song of the Year.

Don't just blindly give us a vote - you can freely stream, or even download this song, here -

Now, I know we're getting our butts kicked, but the real honor is in the nomination...

Thanks to all of you who take the time to click over and vote for us.

Happy Holidays!!!

Von from ONOFFON

you got my vote, Von!

as far as other artists are concerned, I hadn't heard of any of them (I don't think that's Ronnie Montrose...), but I checked out Yael Meyer's music (Female artist) and quite liked it.

happy everyday! :D

Thanks very much, Roger!!!

I didn't know most of those artists either. But, we are the only group that plays anything near progressive up there.

I'm quite proud of that... :dogpile:

Cheers!

I gotta say -

I know these things are just popularity contests - but what if progressive bands started winning these popularity contests?

Instead of another hip-hop group, or alternative band...

If progressive bands could attract more attention, it would open the door for others to appreciate what progressive music does...

C'mon folks - it doesn't cost a thing - no sign up - not even an email address if you don't want to.

Just a vote...

Thanks and happy new year!!!!

Thanks Keithie!!!

I know - I'd never heard of any of them either and, while what I did take the time to listen to was professionally done, these other artists are still trying to fit the mold of what the industry prescribes for their particular genres. Thereby, perpetuating the status quo of the music business. You can't blame them, though. They're only doing what they think they have to to 'succeed'.

At least we try to push the envelope, so to speak...

Cheers!

I just wanted to say thanks again to all those of you who decided to help us along our path...

Alas, we finished third in the 'vote' - of course, it's not like people went there to listen and compare to determine which song justly deserved the title. It was basically a popularity contest of artists driving their supporters to vote for them - as ours did - albeit not as prolifically as the winner... 8-)

The true honor was receiving the nomination in the first place.

Anyway - on a lighter front - this year's IOMA's had us up for nominations in nine categories - although we managed only one - 2006 Album of the Year for our new CD, Bridge to Presage.

Cheers to all - Happy 2006!!!!!

Ahhh - your father was a wise man, roger...

Mine used to say, 'better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick'. The same meaning just a little more graphic... 8-)

Congrats on getting your music up. I remember a while back, I visited your page and you hadn't put any songs up yet. Good to see you're moving forward. I too will download for later listening.

Thanks k for pointing that out and getting me back to roger's page. I have a feeling it will be something I'll greatly enjoy!

Cheers!
