Okay, as you may have seen from the front page, Jim (our Program Director) and I have never met. We will meet for the first time at NEARFest 2001 this weekend.

In fact, we don't even know what each other looks like; we may miss each other entirely at NEARFest if it wasn't for the fact that we're sitting together.

So, here's the contest: Guess Jim Brennan's height. The winner is the listener who is closest. They will receive a fabulous prize from the NEARFest vendor tables. No fair if you already know Jim!

A picture of Jim, as well as his measured height will appear here sometime during or shortly after the festival.

One guess per listener. Good luck!
Fire away!

Wow - I'm surprised there weren't more guesses! Too bad, since we have a way cool prize...

Upon finding Jim at NEARFest, I went to instantly measure his height with a scientific precision second only to the Apollo Moon Landings. Using a laser interferometer that flew in with me from Kansas, I proceeded to duct tape Jim to a nearby column at the Zoellner Arts Center. I locked his neck into place, while giving something for him to bite down onto.

"Don't worry," I told Jim, "This will measure your height precisely. Just don't move. Man, I'd hate to think what would happen if you moved.. This thing usually cuts planes in half at the Boeing factory where I live."

He looked a little nervous. "Can't I just tell you how tall I am instead?"

Truth be told, I'd never thought of that! That's much easier than shaving his head!

"I guess. So, what is it?"

"5 foot 10.5"

So, there you have it! And the winner is... (drumroll)

ThomasJedenfelt with 179 cm, which is right on the nose (or head)! Thomas wins a deck of Roger Dean playing cards autographed by Roger Dean himself!!

Thanks for playing, and keep an eye out for more ludicrious contests!

Okay, this is unbelievable! I don't win prices. The last time I won something valuable was.. when I was 7 years old. I won a teddy bear :)

I have always been fascinated by Roger Dean's work, so I am very excited to get a deck of playing cards with his art, and signed too!

Thank you very much!

(A special thank-you goes to Jim for having the right height. Gee, I _was_ close! Only 7mm short!)

Being a drummer I have some concerns regarding the drumroll. I found it not to be even. If I may, I will now show you how it should have been done...silence, please!

I am looking forward to the next contests. (I don't see why they would be considered as ludicrous?)
