:hrm: I think this is high time to ask this : since this website has been growing and since bunchs of new users are arriving every day, The least would be to add a timetable where any prog rock concert of any kind would happen anywhere, what do you think? Seriously, I'm convinced it's a necessary stuff.

This site must have a timetable where all the moonies could add any gig festival or concert. each added item should countain :

The band, artists playing;
The date, hour of the event;
The country, region where it'll take place;
The cost(s);
And of course, the name of the guest/user who added it.

Finally, this might be controlled by moderator(s) who could be granted the holding of accepting the items before getting them public edited.

Not only this is a serious thing to think of, but i know that many concerts dates are not known. E.g. i'm sure that very few people knew that Anekdoten , John Greaves, or Thee Silver Mount Zion came in France, and more than once. I've been to the former concert by miracle. I had the chance to know someone who knew their concert was scheduled here in France, and just close to where i live! There were many people though... :jawdrop:

But i must say that the only prog rock radio in France doesn't have the ability to make good advs, since the waves are not going very far, and since they're ... ridiculous and not serious at all. Eclipse is the first and best french prog rock organization which has been crawling onto debts, with getting many prog rock bands of all sorts playing here where i live. Most of all, i must say that even the prog rock radio show that happen every thursday at 9.00 pm french hour are not aware at all about the main prog rock concerts scheduled nearby them (e.g. caravan, or TSMZ)!

.... Thus. Please put this timetable on the AM website. Pronto.

We have the ability to do this, if someone wants to edit the events. We have a program installed and ready to go - we jsut need to person to keep up with it on a daily basis. There are other websites who do this very well - ghostland, progressive ears - I hope that by doing this, we're not duplicating their efforts. But if you guys think that our own list might be better and more complete, all I need is a dedicated volunteer (a lot of bands, a lot of concerts!) and we can get this going right away! You don't need to know any help or web tech stuff - it will be very easy to do.

Let me know if you're interested by PM or in this thread.

P.S. This would be kinda separate from he prog news and general announcements that I aksed for earlier, which Rogor has volunteered to do. THis is enough work for an entirely separate person.

Don't we have a thread for this? Just saying...

RW has a valid concern, but it seems unworkable to do. There are too many bands and it's way too cumbersome. There's no way someone could keep up with everything.

I use a variety of different methods...friends, Pollstar, mailing lists of local venues. And the Concert threas that Spaz refers to is good for the odd band you may be interested in.

And finally, the function of Aural Moon is to play music. If a system can be worked out to list shows, great. But pronto is a bit quick, no?

Again, I acutally love the idea. There's software already in place integrated into the website to do this. If someone woukld like to take some time to keep it updated (or even more than one person) - from a technical point of view, it would be pretty user friendly. I'm looking at you Rick! Or maybe we could split it up - have a U.S> person, and a Europe/rest of teh world person?

For max efficiency, I think 3 persons would be more suitable: One for the Us/Canada, one for Europe and another one for the rest of the world.

But then, remember that I suck at Taylorism.

No freaking way,lol. To carve out even more time I'd need to be into what I was doing. And I'm not into it...

what is Taylorism?

Well there you have it!!!!!!!:rolleyes2

Seems that it might be best to leave it to the individual to add a thread to the "Concert Happenings" forum if they find something that they feel might be of interest to fellow buds.

I always keep my eyes and ears open. I know Spaz does too along with quite a few others.

Maybe less work for you Avian to keep it as is.

You all are talking about reliability problem, i.e. will all the items be true? Let's check all of them out! Gosh :bash: . That's why you want a moderator to control, in case of errata, or false adv, or bad corrupted data. But why not letting this timetable free to anyone, to see how it is working? let's create a beta version of what you just have done, Avian!

A thread about any concert is possible to be done, but that's just too much... informal.

I'm convinced that moonies interested in a concert displayed in this timetable will look for it deeper on the internet or elsewhere. if it appears to him or her there is an error, then he she will correct it instantly. We know ourselves. Noone will have to check the information. as in the forum threads. Just let it out!

It's already been done!

There is already a very comprehensive concert list maintained by Duncan Glenday at Progressive Ears. It's really something that I don't think could be improved upon all too much and is fairly comprehensive and frequently updated.

What we REALLY need on AM or elsewhere is a much more comprehensive "new release" schedule than currently exists to my knowledge. Generally the ones that are around are very limited in scope.

Cozy, Yes! I mentioned the prog ears one, and would not want to duplicate what they have.

A new release schedule would be cool. I'm trying to get a good calendar together so that we can input stuff like that (the vbulletin calendar is good, but has limitations and bugs). Who's up for being a New Release manager?

mm ok i'll check this prog ears site. but i'm sure the crescendo festival is not mentionned, neither were TSMZ. i hope it allows to add live dates.

rick_wakeman

good site. but too many big holes, such as crescendo, plus many bands. i think i should myself create a website where people can add the live dates they know. I should even talk about it to the band themselves or the dedicated site.

The guy who runs maintains the page has been very devoted to adding any dn all dates. If the shows you mention aren't there, just drop him a Private Message, and I'm certain he'll put it in his next update.

Now THAT'S a great idea.

And if we do the comprehensive concert schedule thing, I think divvying it up by US/EUR/ROW doesn't make much sense. That'd actually make it three times the work. If Rush is planning a world tour does the US person just post that and hope the other two find the same list? Nah.

Avian

WEll, in Rush's case, sure. BUt there are many, many prog bands that just do Euro tours only, and never make it over here.
