Today, I've been hearing a lot of the artist Milla on AuralMoon. How come? The music is not terribly progressive. Is this the favorite artist of someone at AuralMoon?

That means one of your lovely fellow listeners has been requesting it again and again.

Blame them! :-)

But why is Milla there in the first place? My earlier observation still applies. They/she/etc. are/is not very progressive.

Milla is Milla Jovovich, the actress as seen in The Fifth Element, Resident Evil, and all the lipstick commercials you see on TV nowadays.

I think it's progressive, in a different way than Yes, Rush, Genesis or other "Prog." The obvious comparison is with Kate Bush. A track or two could probably be dumped, but for the most part "Divine Comedy" is a good progressive album, IMHO.

Everyone has their idea of what's progressive and what's not.

Oh boy, a beautiful model/actress/singer? Say no more! I know that's how I like to choose the artists I listen to! When will you be adding Britney too? She can do everything too! You'll gain a much wider listening audience if you add Britney! All Britney and Milla 24-hours a day! Sign me up.

It's sad that a marginally-progressive artist can have more cuts available here than one that's truly progressive and deserves more exposure like Anekdoten. While Milla is out there being beautiful, doing commercials, etc., the members of Anekdoten have to hold down "real jobs" because playing real progressive rock doesn't pay the bills. Please don't say "well, you have to ask for them" because I have! It was over a year ago but nothing ever came of it and I figured I was talking to a brick wall.

Wow - pretty demanding from a completley free service run by volunteers that spend hundreds of dollars a month simply for your listening pleasure!

But, alas, there is no grand conspiracy involved. I believe Jim, our PD, simply had this CD around in his library, where we have to go out and buy (which we often do, just for you) new acquisitions that we don't have, like Anekdoten. Yes, we'll gets a lot of their songs on the station as soon as we can.

BTW, here's an allmusic.com excerpt about Milla:

"Milla Jovovich is an ex-teen supermodel/actress who recorded an unexpectedly interesting debut album, The Divine Comedy, in 1994. Far from the trite dance-pop released by most models angling for a music career, Jovovich's debut is largely acoustic, rooted equally in philosophy and her Slavic background, and surprisingly thoughtful and well crafted."

Milla's albums have been reviewed by several progressive rock magazines.

Have a nice day!

Yes, Milla comes from my collection. I bought it in 1994 after seeing her live as a warm-up act - I had no idea she was a model/actress at the time.

Do you really think Britney Spears is going to make it onto Aural Moon? Or that Milla made it here because of her looks? That's insulting, and entirely undeserved. Take a look at the music collection on Aural Moon - it's a pretty eclectic blend, and obviously not influenced by what's popular. Hell, I get on people's cases for requesting too much Yes/Genesis.

Do YOU even own any Anekdoten? We'd be happy to add some to the station if you send me some CD's. Or are you complaining because you can't get exactly what you want for nothing?

And it's OK to re-suggest a band - I try to review suggestions and stay on top of what's requested, but as it is, AM takes a lot of time and effort on both of our parts. Like Anekdoten, I too have to work a day job since internet radio isn't all that lucrative.

Perhaps you are not familiar with sarcasm? I hope Britney Spears does not appear on AuralMoon but who knows. Putting Milla into a category with Kate Bush is a travesty. All sarcasm aside, I think she has more in common with Ms. Spears than Ms. Bush.

Face it, Milla wouldn't even have an album if she wasn't a beautiful actress/model. Music is a hobby for her. Obviously, you are quite enamoured with Milla. You know an awful lot about her and your taste is reflected in the music your station delivers. Yes, I'm sure a "listener" is requesting her songs and I know who that listener is. More power to you. I hope you two will be very happy together.

And, yes, I own all of Anekdoten's official CDs: their three studio albums and the "live bootleg". I own over 800 CDs and LPs but I do not share my CDs with anyone, even my closest friends, for copying and am surprised you asked. And, no, I don't record other people's albums nor trade in unofficial video or audio bootlegs either. If I like an artist's music, I don't have a problem with paying for it. I have a real problem if you obtain tracks for your station by scarfing someone else's CDs without paying for it. That's called theft and I won't condone it.

I will now not only stop posting but listening as well. Feel free to rant away, assured that you will get the last word.

Have a nice day.

That's the great thing about opinions. Their yours. There's a whole lot of folks who simply do not feel that way. Learn from it.

Face it, Milla wouldn't even have an album if she wasn't a beautiful actress/model. Music is a hobby for her.

Now you're simply stereotyping. You didn't even know she was a model/actress until a few moments ago! Maybe that's how she got her start? How in the world would you know? In any case, her first album was released in 1994, which was long before most people even knew who she was in America.

You know an awful lot about her and your taste is reflected in the music your station delivers. You know an awful lot about her and your taste is reflected in the music your station delivers. Yes, I'm sure a "listener" is requesting her songs and I know who that listener is.

Now you're just making up stuff. How could you know who that listener is unless that listener has told you? In that case, why post messages about it? It is the same listener, and I've disabled requests for the time being to prevent that listener from doing it. Are you saying you've known about this abuse of the station's request policy? If so, what does this say about your character?

As for our music, yes, including Milla does reflect that Aural Moon doesn't cater to petty close-mindedness stereotyping attitudes, such as yours. Thank you for the complement!

One more lie from bruno:
Please don't say "well, you have to ask for them" because I have! It was over a year ago but nothing ever came of it and I figured I was talking to a brick wall.

Notice the total number of posts from him: 4 All 4 of which are in this thread. he never even asked.

I don't think this forum was even running a year ago. I guess it's possible that he posted it on our old, crappy forum.

I haven't lied at all. You have a reading comprehension problem and a forum that doesn't go back far enough. Note that I said I asked over a year ago. Your little forum doesn't have anything earlier than just a few months ago.

The reason you don't see any other posts from me is that I didn't have anything to complain about until now.

I'm still trying to figure out what this means. If you have a constructive remark, let's hear it. Otherwise, shut up.

This sure was a lie!

also:
"The reason you don't see any other posts from me is that I didn't have anything to complain about until now."

And you ask for CONSTRUCTIVE comments after that statement?

Bye now.

I'm not going to defend Milla or her addition to AM, but there are some facts that have been overlooked. The album in question was released in 1994, when she was 18, but written 3 years before that and recorded a year later, when she was 15 and 16, respectively. As for myself, I never heard of her until The Fifth Element, which was released in 1997. I assume that no one else on these forums had heard of her either. So why should anyone give a crap what she looks like or what else she does in her career when "The Divine Comedy" was something she did as a virtual unknown?

After reading the forums yesterday, I heard "It's Your Life" and thought it was alright. It doesn't have any less right to be here than Enya or Mozart, IMO. I heard some of her other songs later on and didn't care for them, but that's the thing with AM. I don't like Renaissance (or Annie Haslam--I just don't see what's so great about her). I never really cared that much for Kate Bush, either. I also can't stand Gentle Giant (or any other Canterbury band, for that matter). But they're all here, and I don't feel the need to blast the station or anyone else for trying something new and expanding their horizons. Thanks, Davin and Jim, for making AM what it is today.

And I would like to see more Anekdoten on the playlist too. I also would like to see Spock's Beard's first (and, arguably, best) album on the list. I think I even read a post that it was going to be, but it never happened, and I LET IT GO. I own the album, SB gets enough exposure on AM, and I realize that it takes time and a lot of money to run this station, so I didn't press the issue. I didn't scream and yell about being lied to, or that nobody reads my posts, I just moved on with my life.

Now as for you, mrbruno:

First of all, sarcasm doesn't really work too well in the written form. Even if you were feigning your anger at first, it never came across as such. You didn't sound terribly sarcastic, you sounded like a two-year-old throwing a temper tantrum.

Second, if Milla is such a big-selling "marginally-progressive" artist, how come I had never heard anything about this 8-year-old album until yesterday? Did it ever occur to you that she could have put as much heart and soul into the album as Anekdoten did/does with thier own work?

Next, you said "I will now... stop posting" yet you posted two more times (and probably will again). Maybe you really do need the last word, not us.

Finally, cooking sherry is a wine used for, you guessed it, cooking. The fact that you didn't understand or have the maturity to laugh at Rael's joke (good one, Rael!), along with your childish response, just goes to prove my temper-tantrum theory. And how constructive were your remarks? If you had told us all about why you felt Milla was not progressive in a calm and level-headed manner, I'm sure we all would have taken you more seriously.

Okay, that's my two cents.

Ooo, bzzz...wrong answer! Apparantly, the comprehension problem is yours. This little forum goes back to its beginning, which was last June. You can read all the articles by just reading the instructions on the page in front of you, and comprehending their meaning. So, when the thread options right in front of you say "Show all in the articles in the past 30 days", you must comprehend what that means, and think about changing it to "the beginning". Just a quick lesson in reading.

And no, your Anekdoten request does not show up in our forums. It's possible that you posted on our old forums (not this one) that went down over a year and a half ago. If that's the case, you haven't mentioned it. And that means, you didn't read our request to repost all music requests in these new forums. Again, these reading problems appear to be a recurring role in your life.

The reason you don't see any other posts from me is that I didn't have anything to complain about until now.

You are certainly terrible at it.
