Ladies and gentleman
RM is in need of help, yes Help in the Beatles frame of mind. I made the silly suggestion of, if I had the money that is, of promoting a Prog CD of Beatles songs but I can't really think of any good pairings of Prog bands and Beatles songs.
Perhaps some of you AM lovers would fire off a good suggestion, and with bands that are still alive.
I thought Andy Tillison and Guy Manning should have a go at "She loves you....."
What DO YOU think????????????

I reckon that Darwin's Radio could fire off a GREAT version of "Getting better".
The Beatles were UNBELIEVABLY good.
Happy birthday Sargent Pepper!!!!
It was 60 years ago today......... ;)

Well, I wanted to suggest Help by Frank Zappa, (Rogor indicated in Chat that Zappa would change it to Help, I need you Money), but here is my suggestion:
"With a little help from my friends"
by....
Le Orme...

This could be very interesting. :hrm:
The first one that jumped in my mind was "Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill" done by Flaming Lips. But I guess they really aren't Prog.
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" - Pick a guitarist - Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Please don't let Steve Howe Sing, What's their names from DT, SB and PT, etc.
"Revolution #1" - Djam Karet (#9 - should be everyone using candid tape recordings)
U2 already took back "Helter Skelter" from Charles Manson.
"Norwegian Wood" would have to go BORKNAGAR (a norwegian band of course - only one I quickly found http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=1793)
But MAGENTA would also do a wonderful rendition of that too as well as "Dear Prudence".
"Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" would be fun for Magic Pie, I'm sure.
"Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" or "For The Benefit of Mr. Kite" should go to Salem Hill.
Okay, that's side one. Someone else's turn.

There's a lot of quality beatles covers already.....and lots of bad ones.
The bad ones include Toad doing I Saw Her Standing There and that god-awful Aerosmith COme Together.
Gamalon does an instrumental "Helter Skelter" on "High Contrast", and Salem Hill did "Across the Universe" as part of their acoustic Hillionaire's Weekend set (not on the DVD, sadly).
Although's there many more, ok I'll try.
I Feel Fine is a fav one..how about RPWL.

As Rick said a few (a lot) of Beatles covers already exist so if I were to choose a favourite that already exists I'd have to go for:
Yes - Every little thing.
Superb!!!!

How could I forget Magic Pie's tear-inducing rousing ass-kicking rendition of "Hey Jude" to close out their 2006 Rosfest set? :yougo

Didn't Transatlantic do a Beatles' medley during some of their shows? Some of their tunes are Beatles-like, so they could probably do a decent job...

Oops, just re-read the original post, hadn't noticed the "still alive" requirement. Although all Transatlantic members are still alive, I don't think the group is... So sorry.

I'd like to see Jon Anderson sing "Hey Bulldog" :hooboy:

Wouldn't Todd Rundgren be great ? I can imagine him play almost all the Beatles song in a personal, interesting way.
