View Full Version : Prog. in Finnish radio

This is mostly meant for the Finnish listeners, as others probably won't find the information very useful due to the obvious geographical reasons:

In case you didn't know, YLE (Yleisradio, the "BBC" of Finland) will broadcast a night of progressive rock on Radio Suomi at Yöradio ("Night Radio", "Nightshift") on July 20th-21st. It's yet another Progeyö ("Prog Night"), sort of, a tribute to that series of rare programs (a bit over 10 in total, methinks) that were broadcasted on the late Radiomafia years ago. Probably worth listening.

Thank you for the information! I probably would have missed the show without your announcement. And still might...

The broadcasting time really doesn´t turm me on. (0.05-5.00am) Is there a (easy) way (I bet there are dozens of...) to record the show to my computer (MAC OSX)?

Well, to be frank, I've never recorded anything from radio to my computer. Only to audio cassettes years ago. But I'm sure the local Mac users at the Moon could give you an advice or two...

As for the broadcasting time, it seems to be a weekend thing, so perhaps you can listen to the show after all anyway...?

By the way, if you like experimental (electronic) music and ambient, don't forget to check Avaruusromua ("Space Junk"), the show at YLE Radio 1 by the "space commander" Jukka Mikkola that's been broadcasted for 17 years now, pretty much every week. (You probably know about the show already, but I thought I would mention it anyway, as I don't know how long you've been interested in prog. rock and the related stuff.)

I will make a thread concerning internet radio recording within few days. (I am feeling lazy right now...)

Sure I could but the chances that I will fall asleep in the middle of the show are like 1/1!

Well I am still quite a newcomer in the progworld (read: I didn´t know about it) and at the moment I am investigating among different sub-genres so I will stick that in mind. At least the broadcasting time is somewhat more reasonable!

Can't help with that... Drink coffee or something... :)

The last show wasn't bad: an hour of the UK-based band Radio Massacre International, with some pretty stuff.

You know what, Lellu? YLE broadcasted another Prog Night just yesterday. And of course I had to miss it. I wouldn't even know about this particular broadcast, if it wasn't for fi.Wikipedia where I have the Prog Night "article" on my personal watchlist. Oh well...

This time I was aware of the coming Progeyö but I thought it was just a repeat of the show what this topic originally was all about... :shootmeno

Im feeling quite stupid now. Seems like we have to wait a year for the next Progeyö to air up. (Thumbs up for a quick repeat)

No need to wait. I just figured the program is, in fact, available on YLE Areena:

Great!

... If it does play on your computer. My mac wont play it.

"Cannot open the file. Verify that the path and filename are correct and try again."

It seems like YLE trusts on WindowsMediaPlayer, which I have but it still doesn't work!! This case is getting ridiculous :D

Temporary technical problems at YLE perhaps? I've been able to listen to the show with Windows and Linux systems so far.

I highly doubt it. I have tried it multiple times on different days...
