I don't know if you folks know all about this yet, but there's a group of young teens covering very difficult songs and covering them well. It's a phenomenon on Youtube. Go to www.youtube.com and search for Mindwalk (one word). They cover "YYZ" and "Limelight" by Rush, "We Were Born to be Loved" by King's X, "Fat Bottomed Girls" by Queen, "In the Dead of Night" by UK, and more, including some originals. Excellent stuff.

When I saw John Wetton perform with the School of Rock All Stars, they covered UK's In The Dead Of Night/By The Light Of Day/Presto Vivace And Reprise. The kid on the keys did Eddie Jobson proud!

As for the Rush tracks: A friend I grew up with studied guitar from a very early age and he was also huge Rush fan. He used to learn and perform every Lifeson lick to a T up through 2112. Then I left home and went off to college and lost touch with him. Sadly, he was content to play in a barroom covers band and never really realized his talent potential.

It's great that young people are studying some of the better new music and talents. Though I don't know if I'd lump King's X in there with talents the likes of UK. :neener:

Well I don't really know the members of YES either -- even though I've met them and partied with them back stage. Still, I love their music.

I couldn't agree more!

I mean, UK put out 2 discs and then Terry Bozzio went and formed Missing Persons and John Wetton was with that mighty prog power Asia. And King's X is on their what, 11th studio CD?

No I wouldn't even compare them either.:dogpile:

Now, I was just teasing also - after all, UK was the first live band I saw.:salute

Spaz, I hope get to watch the videos soon.....

Let's get the facts straight:

UK was originally: Bruford, Wetton, Holdsworth and Jobson. Bruford, who can never stay anywhere for long, and Holdsworth departed after the first album. Bozzio then joined and UK put out Danger Money as a trio.

Since when did quantity preempt quality? Oh yeah, Micro$oft!

OK, these were the kids I saw at Progday on the computer. Saw the Rush and the UK..had to admit, I didn't like the Limelight. This is the first I've seen of the Kx tune. And conversely, I have to admit that blew me away! One of the most complicated pieces, what a song to pick....the syncopation and the stop and starts on that are difficult.

Thanks Spaz...

by the way vax, I know the line-up of uk, have their two CD's, and know their lineage and subsequent offshoots. And I like Danger Money a bit better than the first. More cohesive, and Wetton's singing is much cleaner. Of course they're both great. Not putting one down against the other.

Music can be a life saver.

Have any of you heard of "The Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra" from Venezuela? I saw them at the Proms this year and was literally moved to tears by this group of kids playing the most amazing music. They all come from terrible backgrounds and most have had their lives saved by being in the program.

I tried to find an article about them http://www.list.co.uk/article/2518-simon-bolivar-youth-orchestra-of-venezuela/

Another thing that was so moving about the whole experience of seeing them was noticing how much they loved what they were doing. Totally inspiring and it reaffirmed my faith in human nature.

Here are a few YouTube clips from that proms concert I was at. They are playing Leonard Bernstein's symphonic dances from West side story.
