If anyone on here is interested, you can sign a petition to help get Yes inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. As big of a Yes fan as I am, I do not support the "hall of shame" and also because I don't see Yes as a rock n roll band(but rather a progressive rock band)I don't plan on signing it. I could change my mind but right now I just think Yes has been neglected there for so long I don't see it happening any time soon regardless of a petition. Anyway, here is the link: http://www.petitiononline.com/Yes/petition.html

Well, I'm certainly going to sign (actually, I just did). :yougo

Thanks Mike for the link. The most outstanding musicians always seem to be the last to get noticed. :drdot:

This pops up from time to time, and I always say the same thing. As always, this is only my opinion and it matters little to me if it's not the prevailing view, and if you want to keep bandying it back and forth it should at the very least make for good reading...

Music should not have a hall of fame. This isn't sports, where it has at least some measurable stastic. Sure, the halls of fame in sports have some subjectivity to it, but it presumes a contest or competitive endeavor.

Music is not a competitive endeavor. It is pleasure. Does it matter if Yes or any other band is in a hall of fame?

Let U2 be "the most important band of our generation". We all know the greatness of Yes. Do we need it validated like this? Now there's a progressive hall of fame.

Sigh...

Not to crack on anyone...not my intent - I just see no reason to have a hall of fame for musicians.

When Blondie (yuck) got in I quit watching the little bit I was watching.

Agreed Rick.

You have Hall of Fame because those that are in it are Famous. Pop culture has a huge impact on the world. But then that may be why Madona and Blondie are in it, and the real musicians are not. Yes it is a popularity contest, with record sales as the meter by which to measure success. Is it a true meter, no, but it's something that can be measured.

And I can tell you all do care who's in a R&R hall of fame by how adiment you are about who's not in it and how much you protest it's existence.

But what it "is" and what it "should" be are two entirely different things.

But that's just one person's humble (okay, maybe not so humble) opinion. :hand:

For me that's not true. Matters not who is in or whether there is one.

I kind of side with Rick on this one. I say why stop with Yes? The Moody Blues aren't in there and neither is Rush, Genesis, ELP, Jethro Tull or King Crimson. WHy stop there? Camel, Gentle Giant, PFM, VDGG, the list goes on and on. I disagree that it's a popularity contest. RUsh have sold tons of records(more than Yes)and ditto Genesis. Neither are in there. It seems that any band who is associated with prog even moderately gets in there which is why I'm not sure how Pink Floyd and especially Frank Zappa got in there.

One shouldn't need to prove their love for a band by signing a petition that only "feeds the machine" so to speak. I love Yes and also like the other bands that I mentioned but to quote on these groups songs: "really don't mind if I sit this one out......"

Everyone knows Dark Side of the Moon and the Wall....

and anything FZ is considered "cool".

Speaking of ELP, they were the $2,000 question in Jeapordy! today. The category was "H2o Music", and the question was something like "Keith Emerson's and Carl Palmer's bandmate in ELP". Actually, they may have only given Palmer and wanted the other two.=8^O

I hate to be a wet blanket but. Yes (and prog bands in general (see Mike413)) has no 'crotch appeal', doesn't sell cars, soda, body spray, cell time or make you better at any stupid on-line looser game. The average Yes fan thinks, can write and has probably finished school. So the average music listener can't deal with it. The R&R HOF is a collection of sub-par bands playing sub-par music. I'm sure there's an exception in there somewhere but fuck 'em.
