Some great names for Prog bands I've seen recently.

I particularly liked 'Albino Slug'

If I had a band I'd call it 'Go for the Dog' or in memory of my recent operation 'Deviated Septum'

What would you call your band????

My top four:

The Thick White Cards
The Memoirs
Jazz Super Stereo Phonic
Tank

(The only problem with Tank is people associating it with ELP.)

"Ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together for These Guys."

One time some friends of mine were asked to cover for an opening band that canceled two days before a show that had already sold a few hundred tickets. They threw a band together, rehearsed a bunch of obscure covers (so that most people would think they were originals), called themselves "Room for Improvement," and played a 45-minute set before the headliners. Pretty fun show. Just played the one gig.

If there were ever an Aural Moon band, it should be "Moonatic Fringe."

"Free Beer" I was actually in a band called that in the 80's. Used to piss people off when they found out it was the bands name. "Avalanche"-a landside of rock n roll, and "100 proof" would be good too. :D

My band would be called The little salad forks. Our first album would be called "lettuce begin." :)

These are fantastic folks - gave me a real giggle today although TobyTanzer - where I come from a Trump is a Fart!!!

I am currently in a band called 'Dr Dill and the Herbs' - which I like.

Used to be in a band called Turnpike and later on one called 'Pigs in Space' (a direct steal from the Muppet Show), but our tag line was ' In space no-one can hear you squeal!'

In terms of new names I'm now going for;

'Thankyou and goodnight!' - though it could lead to the world's shortest gig....

"Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome - Thankyou and Goodnight"

in high school, me and a friend came up with a fake band called Reverse Polarity one day in physics class and wasted a lot of class time designing album covers and coming up with punny song titles.

other names off the top of my head:

Syncopated Sanity
Cloud Nein
Splitting Hares
Synesthesia
Camel Toast ;-)

I always liked "Tools for Dad", after I saw it on a sign outside a hardware store in Atlanta.

And the quirky "Four-Loaf Cleaver" is my favorite.

Oh, yeah, how about:
Age of Larry
Fear Itself
Nat King Coleslaw

A few band names I've toyed with...

The Has-Beens (old covers band)
Once Were Rock-stars (in the same vein)
Thursday Night Roast (or whichever day your local pub has it - for a folk band)
Lost in the City (Yes covers)
Dog's Breakfast (punk band)

I've got a mate in a Zappa covers band called Petulant Frenzy.
And I was in a four-part harmony group called "Faux Pas Harmony".

This requires a little bit of a back story so enjoy. ;)

When I was eighteen I worked at a grocery store pushing shopping carts(this was 1988). One day there was a guy entering the store who was wearing a King Crimson t shirt(the one with the red face on it). I recognized it and started talking to the guy. He then told me had to go pee so he went in side the store and I caught him on the way out. When he came back we had this pretty long conversation about music. I think it was the very first time I ever heard someone mention The Residents(a band I had never heard of before). I don't remember every detail of our conversation but it was apparent(his shirt was the first clue)that he was a prog fan. So anyway, he told me that if he ever had a band he would call it "Inky black." I think he said that he heard that from someone who told him that's what he would name his band. SO there you have it. "Inky black" would be the name of my band(that is if I couldn't think of something better). I don't think I ever saw the guy again but it's interesting that I remember that from over 20 years ago.

Nat King Coleslaw Gotta admit I have a soft spot for names like that. The band Rumah Sakit has an album called "Obscured by Clowns."

I like all of those titles (except maybe Syncopated Sanity).
Cloud Nein is very Neitzche
Splitting Hares a little gruesome
Synesthesia would have to be for a very ELP type band
Camel Toast is marvellous!

Now, what were the punny song titles you and your mate came up with? :dunno:

If your band is a guitar oriented one with the crunchy compressed guitar sound of oh let's say Metallica :notsure:  Then a good name for it would be "SLUDGE!" It would have to have a good bottom end too. You know, Rythm wise.

I stayed away from this but decided to finally chime in. In keeping with my anti-poly-ticks, anti-lawyer-feeding, anti-gov't-control temperment, if I had a band, I'd call it:

The Obedient Slaves of the Machine

Or, destined to be almost as popular:

Kill all the Lawyers
