This professional east Los Angeles guitarist,(Ex-Flame Dream),witnessed my first concert of Ronnie Montrose+Johnny Winter when I was 15 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, southern California.
R.I.P. Ronnie Montrose !!Ronnie Montrose, who formed the band that bore his name and performed with some of rock's heavy hitters, backing musician, playing with Van Morrison,Boz Scaggs, and Edgar Winter. He finally formed his own band inhas died, his booking agent said Sunday.

Montrose died Saturday at his home in Millbrae (a city in San Mateo County, west of San Francisco Bay,California),agent Jim Douglas said.He was 64.

Montrose had been in declining health for some time, battling prostate cancer and "personal demons," Douglas said.
Montrose formed his own band in 1973.

I hear you bro. R.I. P. Ronnie. I remember all the early 70's shows with Sammy then With Bob James on vocals. "Lucky Man" "Twenty Flight Rock" "Matriarch" thru his days with Davey Pattison and Gamma. A local fav for shure. Damn it! He will be missed. I'm playing my Gamma 4 cd and Montrose stuff all day today in his memory. Remember folks that's his heavy guitar riffs in the Classic Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein" too.

I think Ross Valory played with Montrose, which makes him a winner in my book.

I had tickets to see him in May. What a bummer.

I'm a huge Van Morrison fan and didn't realize he played on Tupelo Honey album. He will be missed for sure. God Bless.

Sad indeed. I've seen him 3 times (just last October!) over the last few years and he always rocked.
