View Full Version : Great Guitar Songs

Hey, all. I tend to shy away from theme shows on the DRH; they're usually way more trouble than they're worth. However, if the theme is loose enough, it could be fun.

I want to do a series of shows on great non-prog guitar songs, keyboard songs, etc. So, if you have a few or so songs that you think are GREAT guitar songs, let's get them in so I can build some guitar-centric shows.

Same guidelines as before: Can't be on AM, has to be good.

Now, great guitar song is not necessarily synonymous to "watch me play a lot of notes!" They can be, but don't have to be.

Already played Stairway. I have Hotel already. However, for my money, the best guitar song by Eagles is this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8u7J60I_wro).

IMO, any non-prog guitar show should have a song from one of the greatest guitar albums of all time (UFO-Strangers in the Night) featuring guitarist Michael Schenker. You also should include the great Frank Marino. His "Real Live" album will melt your face :D. Also there are so many great blues guitarists that are so much better than Eric Clapton (And I am a fan of Clapton). How do you chose for a 1-hour show? :dunno:

another great guitar song would have to be "Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd

No, not Freebird. I can't go to a single show without someone shouting "Free Bird." Ugghh. I really think places should start to throw out people who yell "free bird." I"m serious. It was fun for a while but it's not funny anymore and it's just annoying as hell.

Chicago - 25 or 6 to 4 - one of the best guitar leads ever.

(as tired as I am of Hotel California, the outro also a top something guitar lead ever)

(Clapton - years ago, a guitarist friend of mine and I started working on a list of guitarists that were better than Clapton - we gave it up, as the list got so long. I think we quit at about 75.)

guns and roses-paradise cityI have them. The ones on AM are out. As for the others, I really, really, really want to stay away from the "Radio Classics" as much as possible. Curiously enough, I consider "Light My Fire" more of a keyboard song.

queen-brighton rock
pantera-floods I don't have these two, so send them on.

Obviously I have a huge list of non-prog great guitar songs, but won't mention them so as not to spoil. One thing I'll say is I'm not necessarily looking for "Hey, watch this solo" type songs. Killer rhythm tracks make for great guitar songs too. For example, this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFxKM51WePs#t=3m40s). So keep piling up your guitar songs, but think outside the "amazing solo" category too. :D
