COTM - #242 - Top Albums of 1980

Happy New Year listeners and friends.

Countdowns are the rage of the changeover from one year to the next. I thought I would take a look at some polls from years gone by. 1980, in fact.

I am using the rating poll vs. a popularity poll. For example, Gagliarchives top 100 is a popularity poll, while the rating poll on ProgArchives is based on the album review section of the website.

For this weeks show I am actually using the 1980 ProgArchives top rating list. I will play the top three albums of that year: Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel (III - Melt), SBB - Memento z banalnym tryptykiem, and Rush - Permanent Waves.

I hope you can come by this week during one of the 3 broadcasts. It's an interesting pairing with plenty of great music.

Although these 3 albums are good, the fact that they were top 3 illustrates what a weak year for prog 1980 was.

2/3 albums I did knew,,, Permanent Waves part of my daily playlist those years,,high school days,, ears so open !
...and removing the film that covered a new vinyl ! what a moment !!
