Avain, can you move his question over to here?

Thanks!

VAXman
02-10-2004, 03:17 PM
OK. The following phrases imply a song lyric:
one entire line or some part(s) of it.

Figure out the lyric and then state the Artist and song's title. For example:

mixed poultry products ... It's Scrambled Eggs
Genesis: Aisles of Plenty

1. saliva sanitation
2. two jiggers of scotch
3. Edison's company pet
4. sacrosanct annal darkness
5. repeated momento theft
6. settled alientated
7. dark azure timepiece
8. tercentenary expiration
9. any departing comments?
10. everyone genuflected

All of the answers save for one are in the AM playlist. All of the artists are in the playlist.

I hope these aren't too easy or too difficult.

The word genuflect should be used more often in everyday speech.

Although the answers are not flowing, I think this is a great question!

I've been really work busy and under the weather, so I'm kinda not up on it lately. I'll try to think harder.

Anybody else with guesses?

progdirjim

hard, but not too hard! Since I'm currently paying for internet access, I may not get a guess in for a few days, but if the question is still open when I return, watch out!

Right Jim.........glad you made it.

Wait 'til tomorrow and you may not even remember that the question exists. :D

This is a good question. Here's a guess:

10. Genesis - Can-Utility And The Coastliners

(all bent their knees)

Great job Moses!

There are a few that are so literal in translation that I'm surprised that there aren't more answers.

Rick and Roll

I did manage to translate nine of them, but between work and illness, I can't seem match them up to songs. Usually I'd be up on them - so, you all better follow the lead of Moses before Jim and Keith and I get going!:)

I quoted "One For The Vine" as a way to say follow moses.

If you did translate 9 of then, you should have at least 2 or three of the songs easily. javascript:smilie(';)')

4 - sacrosanct annal darkness

bible black - Marillion - Bitter Suite

I thought somebody would jump to conclusions and say it was Starless and Bible Black but knowing I'm a Marillion maven probably guided you to your answer which is the correct answer.

The simplest clue still remains unanswered.

Score so far:

1 to moses for answering #10
1 to progdirjim for answering #4

actually, I never thought of KC - I dislike that song!

1. - saliva sanitation - Jethro Tull - Two Fingers

"you'd better lick two fingers clean, before you shake his hand"

Wrong on both accounts... but I'll give you a hint:

supplicate for *its* cessation

implies the subsequent line in this verse.

I really wish I could give this question the time it deserves. For instance, I immediately thought of Tom Sawyer with the spit reference, but it doesn't fit. I can't solve these teasers at work (too busy).

Have fun!

yes, they're too difficult. But I for one am not ready to give up. Here's some wrong guesses just to relieve my frustration:

5. No Souvenirs - Melissa Etheridge
9. Just A Song Before I Go - Crosby, Stills, & Nash

All of the artists are on the playlist.
All of the songs are on the playlist save for one.
This is your first big clue: #5 is the song that does not appear in the playlist.

Now there should be no excuses. You're so close to the answer, don't give up.

As for #9, perhaps you'll do better if you think about this one while your enjoying your morning milk and tea.
The band in question is comprised of four, not three, but one has since left to be free.

#2 is so easy. Are there no bartenders/drinkers amongst us? I'd give you a little pinch of a clue but that would make it too too easy.

OK, I've said enough.

OK here's a guess that I think is way off base...

6. settled alientated - Peter Gabriel - Don't Give Up

(moved on to another town, tried hard to settle down)

But it doesn't quite seem to fit.

...but I intentionally chose these clues to use synonyms for words in the lyric. Thus, settle and settled wouldn't work... good try though...

PG might be in the list... perhaps you should look back at the clues I left for RnR.

Hint for you... the answer to #6 exists on the AM playlist by the original artist as well as a cover. I think this should narrow it down considerably.

No way do we cancel this..............it's difficult but thought provoking.

If you want to start a new thread go ahead. That's why we moved it to it's own category.

If I list the artists in question in this question, will that make it any easier?
Of course it will. Is that what it will take to move this along?

Rick and Roll
02-23-2004, 10:41 AM
Hey, I'm too busy at work to figure it out, and by the time I get home, it's been too late to do this question.

I like it, though - and it stumps Jim & Keith, which is not easy!

My question is: move on to where??? It's VAX's question, he earned it, and I'm sure we'll get more clues.

I vote to give it more time....

Just saw VAX's reply - only give out the band as a last resort - it makes it too easy!!!!

And Keith - I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

could #6 be ELP-The Endless Enigma?

"everyone came but they all sat alone"

I figured #5 was PG from your clues, but at the moment I can't think what song that would be.

Since VAX pounded me over the head with clues, I finally found another one while I should have been working.

Number 8 is the Night Watch (King Crimson) "three hundred years have passed"

1. saliva sanitation
2. two jiggers of scotch
3. Edison's company pet
4. sacrosanct annal darkness - BITTER SUITE
5. repeated momento theft - EXCUSE ME
6. settled alientated - ENDLESS ENIGMA
7. dark azure timepiece
8. tercentenary expiration - THE NIGHT WATCH
9. any departing comments?
10. everyone genuflected - CAN-UTILITY AND THE COASTLINERS

Well, I've been trying all day to move this quiz along....

I requested #7's answer today too... Keithie's on
the right path... it's just a bit too dark to see...;)

3 - moses
3 - Jim

1,2,3 and 7 left... are these too difficult or it is just Am apathy?

Rick and Roll
02-25-2004, 04:31 PM
apathy's not the right word. I was ripping through the quizzes when I had a lot of time on my hands - now I'm a spectator unless it hits me right away.

There's no time limit here, you're fine!

Maybe I'll get the last one to mess up someone later:p

progdirjim
02-25-2004, 05:10 PM
It's definitely not apathy - just a difficult question - the clue has to hit you the right way to get the lyric, then you have to place it. Bible black was easy for me, since I love that song, and I love France including Lyon. The Pink Floyd and PG I needed the extra clues to focus me in the right place - then it became easy.

Is number 3 Adrian Belew - Big electric cat?

I hope I'm right but...........

#2 - Two Jiggers of Scotch just smacks of:

Triumvirat - Illusions on a DOUBLE DIMPLE.

"Hello, I'd like a Double Dimple
Good and strong"

If this is wrong then I'm giving up and throwing in the towel.

Great question VAX. This has caused more thinking and faffing than any quezzie posed so far.

Even if you didn't know Dimple was a scotch (Haig and Haig in their Pinch bottles) the two jiggers (a double) should have been easy.

3. Edison's company pet - BIG ELECTRIC CAT
4. sacrosanct annal darkness - BITTER SUITE
5. repeated momento theft - EXCUSE ME
6. settled alientated - ENDLESS ENIGMA
7. dark azure timepiece
8. tercentenary expiration - THE NIGHT WATCH
9. any departing comments? - SUMMER OF '68
10. everyone genuflected - CAN-UTILITY AND THE COASTLINERS

Funny you should mention going out of your mind.

The answer to number 7 is a song about that very same subject -- in fact, quite insane.
This song is by a UK artist/group from 1968.
I saw this artist/group perform at the "Theatre of Living Arts" in Philadelphia 7-May-2002.

The answer to number 1 is a US band.
In fact, this band once came down from an acid trip to perform when I first saw them in 1978.
The answer is also from a 1978 release by this band.

Procol Harum - Shine On Brightly
"My Prussian-blue electric clock..."

should be the answer for #7.
