Bloody Hell that was quick........

We're not worthy, we're not worthy!!!!!!!!

Jeez Rick....I thought that might take you a bit longer than that!!!!!!!!!!

Over to whoever for whatever.

Rick and Roll 09-02-2003 08:10 AM

I was in the mood

If Bob doesn't come up with something in 48 hours, I will do another one.

Yesspaz 09-02-2003 10:14 AM

Ah yes but........

On the early pressing that I have of "Days of future........" it's down as "Knights".

So we're both right.:D

Rick and Roll 09-02-2003 10:31 AM

(k)nights in white satin..

the discussion never reaching the end...............

KeithieW 09-02-2003 11:03 AM

This is the End.........

Wrong band I know but what the hell!!!!!!!

Bob Lentil 09-03-2003 09:55 PM

I can't think of anything original at the moment, so here's another link question. Connect Porcupine Tree to Pain of Salvation.

Avian 09-03-2003 10:13 PM

Seeing as how popular this thread is, would guys find it more useful if we had a Prog Trivia forum by itself to have multiple challenges going?

Avian

KeithieW 09-04-2003 02:11 AM

Separate Forum.

I think it would be good to have it as a separate forum Avian but I think itbetter to keep the same format.

That is one question going at a time and the person who, in the opinion of the question setter, get's it right or closest.

Multiple chalenges on other Forums I subscribe to just fall into chaos as people start setting things just because they've come up with an idea they think is "Clever".

Separate Forum but same format would be my choice. How about you other regular quizzers?

BTW Bob, That's a stinker for someone firmly rooted in all things 70s.

Rick and Roll 09-04-2003 09:43 AM

Sorry for the delay

I only usually get to the forums if it's a response to mine, I just happened to be browsing.

Bob - I will work on your question.

Avain - sure, move the thread if you like. As said on Stak Trak once - "Only a fool stands in the way of progress".

Yesspaz 09-04-2003 09:48 AM

I know it's not my turn, because I never get one right, but here's a question anyway. It's probably easy...

Who's the odd one out...

Andy Summers
Sting
Steward Copeland

Rick and Roll 09-04-2003 10:01 AM

Yes!!!!!

Once the connection hit, it all fell together -

Porcupine Tree
Richard Barbieri
Japan
David Sylvian
Robert Fripp
King Crimson
Tony Levin
Liquid Tension Experiment
Mike Portnoy
Transatlantic
Roine Stolt
Flower Kings
Daniel Gildenow
Pain of Salvation

High fives all around! Expect a different kind of question in a day or two.

Yesspaz - not sure what you're driving at - I could name a lot of things, are we talking musically or otherwise?

Yesspaz 09-04-2003 10:41 AM

uh, sure, musically, Aural Moon-wise.

Nicely done. Here's how I did it:

Porcupine Tree
Steve Wilson
OSI
Mike Portnoy
Dream Theater
James Labrie
Explorers Club
Steve Walsh
Daniel Gildenlow (both Walsh and Gildenlow appear in Genius Rock Opera)
Pain of Salvation

Rick and Roll 09-04-2003 01:44 PM

I guess...

I better get cracking. Working on something involving animals and fruits, but not sure if it will go anywhere.

I see I went the long way again - but it fit so nicely.

In the meantime, the Yesspaz question has me addled. Maybe I'll throw in a King's X reference to balance things out.

Rick and Roll 09-04-2003 02:27 PM

More Genesis fun

Five weird questions:

1) Name the word that appears in two different Genesis songs, and was the one-word title of the only hit the Knickerbockers ever had (that song was also covered by Styx).

2) What distance does a Genesis mouse share with what you wouldn't touch an ugly woman with and also a ZZ Top song Title?

3) The second word in a Genesis song title is also the name of a famous hard rock band, and also is a word that appears in the title of a hit on the lead singer's first solo album. Name it.

4) Name the high-rising land form on a Genesis song from A Trick of The Tail, another high-rising land form that's the name of a Hackett solo tune, and even another high-rising land form that's personified on an old Zappa tune.

5) If you take that Zappa land form, combine it with the first word of the title of the Genesis tune in (3), what is the name of the song off of the first album by the hard rock band in (3)?

KeithieW 09-04-2003 06:56 PM

Yowlee!!!!

Great question!!!!!!!

I expect by the time I wake up in the morning it will have gone but here's hoping...........

Night Night!

Sting cos' he doesn't appear in any of the music on the AM playlist.

Andy summers is there in his own right (with Mr Fripp)
Stewart Copeland is in Curved Air.

KeithieW 09-05-2003 04:22 AM

Difficult but......

I've got somewhere with them.

1) Lies
2) 10 Feet
4) Volcano, The Steppes, Billy the Mountain.

With 3) is the Lead singer referred to a Genesis Lead singer or from "the famous hard rock band"?

Rick and Roll 09-05-2003 08:02 AM

You are very close

1) is correct - "The Lady Lies" and of course the Lamb - the song Lies, a Beatles sounding tune, is covered by Styx on Man of Miracles as a replacement song on the CD for a tune called "Unfinished Song" on the album. Weird!

2) I wouldn't touch you with a tenfoot pole! says Billy Gibbons. The Genesis mouse is ten feet tall. And well, we've all had out share of alcohol-induced trysts with women that are, shall we say, not so beautiful.

3) this is easy, but I guess I did set off confusion here. The lead singer is from the hard rock band.

4) very nicely done! I thought this would be more difficult - and of course, Ethel was a tree growing off of his shoulder!

5) Once you get (3), you've got (4), I think you are there!

It looks like the Police Yesspaz question looks correct.
