I also have 3 rick

Did you forget Strange Advance?

Of course you were joking! That's why I gave you tongue-in-cheek comment but, alas, not tongue-in-cheek emoticons. :(

Rick and Roll 07-03-2004 08:27 PM

I'm such a dumbass

I realized about three minutes later that I was totally screwed. Just call me Mr. Sensitive and Stupid.

You may be high, but you outsmarted me!

And I did forget Strange Advance. We are tied.

We don't have to go to OT, do we?

"he shoots and scores"!

And may I add you've shown excessive restaint to lay off the Rush thread!

Thinking back, it seems to me that some people here were genuinely offended by the site. Just out of curiosity, what has the creator of it done to earn anything more than a good laugh and dismissal?

Looking at it, I can only wonder how serious the real creator could be; there are a few aspects of it that suggest it was created as a joke, such as what appears to be a conscious effort to make the site as cheesy, blatantly stereotypical, and unprofessional as possible. Unfortunately, if it is a spoof, the author is talented enough not to give any explicit tip off (as far as I have read), perhaps with the exception of the cute picture on the main page. ;)

The people who would be interested in the site are primarily those who have mindsets that are already dead set either against the position it states; people who are more ambivalent on the issue are much less likely to care about the site, and that is providing they managed to find it in the first place, since it's not generally accessible on the web but is, rather, distributed almost exclusively between within one of the opposing groups (think about how you discovered the site).

Either way, I say that there is really nothing to fear from old Jerry here, and it's probably not worth getting too hot and bothered about.

Anyway, that's just something I've been thinking about.

spoof?

sadly, even if that particular site is a spoof, there are certainly people out there that have those thoughts, about prog rock and many other subjects.
we are a curious species, capable of such great ideas and actions(and music!), and also capable of being very narrow-minded and un-willing to think for ourselves.
have a happy 4th, and remember the price of that freedom to think is eternal vigilance. and that's not vigilantes.

Well said all!

As I stated before, it strikes me as strange and ineffective to target such a small and docile group as ours, therefore, the legitimacy of the site is questioned. But (I know, never start a sentence with "But") I also know that there are a few wackos out there and the internet provides them with a means to contact other similarly minded wackos. The guys claim is a joke, whether intended or not, therefore should not stir any emotion from us except amusement.

To Rick: I have restrained myself from the anti-Rush forum since it seems to me that this guys issue with Rush is personal. Maybe his girlfriend is in love with Geddy Lee, he couldn't learn "The Spirit of Radio" riff, or he's a Naples Florida cop. I'll stay clear of his rants and let him resolve his issues by himself or with some professional help.

Great thread. Sort of a massive shout box without the refresh.

Skimmed over the diatribe in question. The guestbook was much better.

I'm guilty of that! ;) Interestingly, it's not difficult at all to figure out what's going on (the main part is rather simple and repetative), but the real secret is having the dexterity. I tried it, and my fingers just weren't fast enough. :(

Exactly my sentiments, Zvin. That's why I responded to the guy (whom I perceive to be an honest, zealous, and well-meaning, yet misinformend, Christian), encouraging him to channel his energy into the "bigger fish to fry" category. Of course, my convictions on what those fish are may be different than others here, but I think we agree the guy is misguided as comes to prog. Doesn't mean he's an idiot, just ignorant.

reading that , all i could think of was-

"...and we achieve all this with movement inbetween the sad remark"

Rick and Roll 07-04-2004 10:32 PM

Please explain, that went over my head....

kirk 07-04-2004 11:53 PM

sorry rick , i was referring to the person that posted
that ignorant diatribe to his site.

"hippies"(whatever that is) christian
or buddhist, the prog people are simply
some of the most introspective, insightful people
i know.
i'm proud to count myself among them.

Rick and Roll 07-05-2004 12:03 AM

I mean....

is that a lyric or a famous quote? I just was curious of the origin.

kirk 07-05-2004 12:56 AM

that's from the end of "close to the edge" bud!:D

Rick and Roll 07-05-2004 08:32 AM

"Partial Mass Retain"

oh yes..... I think after "how can the wind with its arms all around me" (missing the verb) I have become numb to his lyrics.

:)

kirk 07-05-2004 11:34 AM

o.k.- we're going to have to take this outside..:D

Rick and Roll 07-05-2004 11:52 AM

that's a good point

it's a nice day what am I doing inside?

I used to think in "Gates" he said "Kill the laughing children" (I was combining "Kill them" and "should we leave our children". It was my high school buzz acting up again (oops further fodder for our thread starter).

kirk 07-05-2004 01:06 PM

it's o.k., i'm still waiting on mine to wear off!

the doode's artwork really didn't help:D

i can't think of what grade i was in when i drew
on that level. sometime prior to my "flaming skulls"
period, i think.

podakayne 07-06-2004 01:18 PM

YES

rick...i got kirk's Yes quote immediately...as for gates are you did you mean the one below?

Quote:

as sung by Yes
Kill them...give them as they give us...Slay them...burn their children's laughter...On to Hell
anywho, i like what kirk quoted...makes a perfect ending to me kirk...

an altogether prime reading thread Z!

p.s. rick one day i'll explain the wind with it's arms all around me thingie;)

Rick and Roll 07-06-2004 01:28 PM

I better...

stop eating meat and potatoes and looking at things in black and white and start paying attention to the lyrics! (although the "Soon" section was a special tune in my formative years).
