It's my pleasure to share with others what I think is the best new album to come out in a long while.... but that's just my humble opinion, of course!

I didn't see it on the playlist.

The guest apperances are just that. They simply augment the songs and should not really be used as a measuring stick either way. For instance, Buck Dharma lends his fantastic playing to one track. So it should be emphasized that this is indeed a Simon Apple record with guests.

This is a tough call. It's really good. But while on the one hand I'd say it's definitely not progressive in the original traditional sense, it's no less prog than RPWL, Riverside, and most recent prog offerings.

In fact, I compare this favorably to Bruce Hornsby's "Harbor Lights".

There's an interesting show and dinner in Easton PA on 2/11/06, per the website.

Also, it appears they were just on the Gagliarchives program in studio.

I bought the album, and while I'm glad to support musicians, it probably won't be in my player much. there are a couple of very good tunes, and some excellent playing throughout, but it didn't grab me, prog-wise, much at all. that and the fairly overt religious lyrics, prior conversations not-with-standing.

give me Bruce Hornsby anyday.

You know I should really let things settle in before I reply. I do enjoy it but I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment.

The only thing I don't mesh with your review is the lyrics. It doesn't matter one bit to me what the lyrical content is really.

Thanks for posting that, I was on to some Ponty and forgot my post was a bit off of what I truly thought.

it's funny, because usually, I'd be right there with you. I have albums I've had for 30 years that I don't know the lyrics to, but religion tends to be a sticky point with me, so... I know that SA doesn't mean these to be preachy, but they hit me that way. my problem.

In my estimation, it's more the singer/songwriter thing. I didn't find anything too preachy. Quiter songs usually beget "spritual" vocals. As I listen to more music, I actually find I'd prefer to hear that message.

It's difficult to sing about Lucifer with an acoustic guitar, unless you're a country artist.

The only song that stuck out lyrically was the Katherine...cause it's about a redhead.:neener:
