Well, I have somehow problems with the idea that SAM picks randomly any album and let it play, as I would like to hear most of the (so called) concept albums first. Why don't we do it 2 steps: Let us collect the information from all Moonies about concept albums which are on the Moon , make a PL out of it and let pick SAM (or whoever) from that list to play any album just once (if possible). After the list is played, which came out from the info from all Moonies, we will have a "SAM Album Show" on RFW, letting SAM pick from all albums randomly, trying to avoid too many repeats.. What do you think? |
Re: Concept Album "Show?"
I think this is a most wonderful idea.
The only recommendation for an album I will suggest is Nektar's "Journey To The Center Of The Eye", there is nothing like sitting in a dark room with the headphones on listening to this. Prog On Moonies :rockband: Spewie |

Pick one from the list and one at random each week. ... with the current count of albums on the moon - it will take nearly 47 years to play them all at that rate.... I see an approximately endless argument (akin to the "what is prog") about "what is a concept album" ;) |
Re: Concept Album "Show?"
Okay, I've been wanting to do something of a show. How would this sound to y'all.
I'd like to host what I'd like to call "The Listener's Corner." This would be a 90-120 minute show that could feature playing the "concept album" and a 60 minute set from our listeners (much like those put together for the 10th Anniversary show). This would allow listeners to express their interests and tastes via a small show without having to do the work, both on the album side, as well as single tracks. I may, from time to time, take that time to play an album and set list of my own choosing, as well. I like the idea of a "random album" played on NRW, and this would not preclude or substitute for that notion. I think that's fine as it stands. My show would be to monitor and manage the choices of 'concept albums.' Yes, I'm volunteering to be the scapegoat. (O' lord, what am I getting myself into) Anyway, what do you think? |

Perhaps I'll do 'real time' shows once I've honed my craft. I was thinking more along the lines of people sending me lists of songs from which to pull a playlist. So, come on folks, let's jump on the bandwagon. :dogpile: |
Re: Concept Album "Show?"
Alright - this show is now a reality. A concept album is being featured as the opening act of "Corner of the Mooniverse."
Earlier in this thread a number of albums were named as potential concept albums. I will re-enumerate the sugestions again here and I would like you to add more suggestions. Here's what we started with: Nektar's - Journey To The Center Of The Eye, The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Trans Siberian Orch - Beethoven's Last Night Mozart - Symphony 40 & 41 :D Mastermind - Rhapsody Ayreon - any Mussorgsky - Pictures At An Exhibition (any version) Triumvirat - Pompeii & Spartacus Uriah Heep - Demons & Wizards GG- Power and the Glory Genesis - Lamb Lies Down on Broadway Marillion's: Misplaced Childhood, Brave, Afraid of Sunlight, and Marbles Pink Floyd's: Darkside OTM, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall. Nectar - Remember the Future, and Recycle JT - Thick as a Brick & Passion Play Wakeman - journey to the center of the earth, Merlin, 6 Wives of Henry VIII Yes - Topographic Oceans Moody Blues - Days of Future Past Soft Machine: Softs Grobschnitt: Solar Music Galleon: The Sea Canarios: Ciclos Ludwig van: Symphony No 9 Existence - Small People, Short Story, Little Crime I know there are many more out there. Let's just keep this going to make a more complete list (Jim - feel free to edit and deny as we go along). Dale |

Re: Concept Album "Show?"
Conceptually speaking...there are also albums that have songs that run together on CD, but are broken into separate tracks. If the tracks were zipped together, the ends of the songs wouldn't be so rudely interupted. A couple of examples: Ambrosia's Somewhere I've never Travelled, Queen's Queen 2, The Flower Kings Flower Power. (ok, that was three examples)
So, if the album-play RFW doesn't work out, perhaps some sections of albums could at least be pieced together properly for regular play. One example of where this has already been done in the library is the pairing of IKEA by Night with Astral Dog. It is another Flower Kings deal that just makes sense when played together. Even IF the album-play deal works out, we should start compiling a list of tunes that have rude cutoffs, and get the two or three per album that exhibit this phenemenon zipped together for regular play. My 3 cents |
Re: Concept Album "Show?"
With the enormous tastes that are in the radio maybe could be impossible to do, but i think that the idea of lotus had to be respected and are positive . Why not? Take your time and discover great art composiciones that can't taste in pieces. The difficult are in the work of Vax a data base, are complicated imho, but just started and the things can gettin better. Lets go and do it.

So, I say, go for it. But I would still like ideas from people on "concept" album titles for my show. So give some suggestions. If further discussion of a separate album show is warrented, please create a separate thread to do so. (that's for everyone's benefit, Ramon, not a personal suggestion). I'd like to keep this thread for the concept albums only. Thanks. :-V |
Re: Concept Album "Show?"
Original ideas are discussed and somtime the outcome is something really positive, like OHD's new show "Corner of the Mooniverse", which joines together 2 ideas..Concept Album to be played and an individual Moonie show, in which everybody can be the director.
I would have preferred that this particular show played on RFW in order to interrupt SAM's sometimes "strange" taste.. :) ; but anyhow, I very welcome OHD's show and cannot wait to hear the second on Sept. 21, 2009. |

Re: Concept Album "Show?"
I am all for the above ideas in any form they may take. Concept albums would be great to hear. I would like to hear any album in its entirety (yes, even GYBE!), so a random album play is good. Also, there are plenty of albums that have long suites that I think are great to hear as suites. (My apologies if I'm adding undue complications for those who have to do the work!)
Examples: Clepsydra - Alone (especially the first thirty minutes or so) Alan Parsons - Tales of Mystery and Imagination (especially Usher) Ten Jinn - As on a Darkling Plain (in part) Arena - Crying for Help (song in eight parts spread over two albums) |
Re: Concept Album "Show?"
There was a shout box discussion of other albums to include - Please include them here to remind me.
