contained somewhere in the first clue is a term that is a clue to a Steinbeck novel not yet mentioned. You've heard of the novel.

Quote:

5.Beatles - Dear Prudence
Richard Leo Johnson - Heart Of The Beast "DICK"
Yes - Don't Kill The Whale "WHALE"
HERMAN MELVILLE - MOSES

the first clue also references Moby Dick, not one of Melville's other novels.

9. Ian Anderson - The Little Flower Girl
Ian Anderson - The Little Flower Girl

the repetition is intentional. female author.

Rick and Roll 05-13-2004 08:43 AM

It seems obvious now....

I can't get the Prudence one.....looks like the Jam man is the one..

nice quiz!

JamForte 05-13-2004 12:24 PM

arrggghhhh

think rick...... think .. please ... ;)

that's it. coOKIE - the Joad family and the real life folks like them were referred to as Okies, being from Oklahoma. Not to mention they took a JOURNEY, and the DUST bowl... this was probably the hardest clue, which was why I threw in the "East of Eden" near-freebie in there...

Keithie - 9 points
Zvinki - 7 points

With only one point left, JamForte is the winner. While we're waiting for Jam to come up with a quiz, here's some clues for the remaining clue and the not needed tiebreaker:

for the Moby Dick clue, I could substitute: Beatles - Back In The USSR, and the answer is the same.

for the tiebreaker, the author is a male from the US, still writing. The first clue contains a word in common with one of his titles; the second clue you may need to look at the album to get the clue pointing to a different tile; and the third and fourth clues each contain one word from a third title.

that should make it fairly easy...

Tom Robbins

Godspeed's Static is from Life Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven, = Skinny Legs and All

Curlew and Kate Bush = Still Life with Woodpecker

Yanni = Another Roadside Attraction

Well, I was thinking the USS from USSR is a reference to the boat, but the boat's name is the Pequod...

No idea.

maybe I can make it more obvious.

Beatles - Dear Prudence
Beatles - Back In The USSR
Beatles - Revolution 9
Beatles - Happiness Is A Warm Gun

all would be the exact same clue. this clue is in reference to Moby Dick, in addition to "DICK" and "WHALE"

:D

progdirjim 05-13-2004 07:41 PM

oh yeah, before this quiz morphed into a literary exercise, I was thinking Hollywood. So, just for giggles, while we're waiting for Jam, who is suggested by the following grouping of songs?

Jon and Vangelis - Italian Song
Gordon Giltrap - Awakening
Moody Blues - The Actor

Jethro Tull - Songs From The Wood
Ambrosia - Cowboy Star
Castanarc - Journey To The East

Trace - Penny
Steve Adams - Tapped
Poor Genetic Material - Shooting Psycho

As you can see, since I read more than I watch TV/movies, I was able to come up with more interesting questions with books.

JamForte 05-13-2004 08:17 PM

prudence and all that...

They are all from the white album...

white? .. hm thought that was sharks...

white whale.. of course...

ah...

it will take me a few days - I need to think of a theme first..
