Getting there...........
Come On Children (1973) was the film but I still can't get the song.................
D'oh!! |
I give up.......
What's the answer Bob.
Put us out of our misery!!! Please!!!!   |
I nearly forgot about it it's been so long.
The movie is indeed Come on Children. The song is Run Willie Run. You can listen to it here. |

As you got us with that one I think you should come up with another question. Back to you my friend. |
What do the following have in common?
Peter Gabriel Steve Hacket Pink Floyd Andy Summers Yes |
My first thought was Hypgnosis, but a few may be missing there...
My second thought is The Filmore East ?? |
and that's when I realized the answer was Tony Levin.
am I right? |
Tony Levin's played with everyone!
That was to be my choice, too, but I couldn't pull the trigger. You may indeed be right!
|
Well, Tony Levin is definately one answer, for sure... are there others?
|
Tony Levin was what I was going for. I would be surprised if there weren't any others.
|
Over to you Avian
Another question please.
Doing these things increases my knowledge of Prog a lot what with the research to get an answer. |
Here's one, not too tough. What band played a pair of shows in London without its lead singer/guitarist (who was in jail at the time), and brought on Peter Hammill and Robert Fripp to handle the duties? (Other guest musicians at the gigs included Nik Turner of Hawkwind, Ian Dury, Hazel O'Connor, Toyah Wilcox, Robert Smith of The Cure, and Steve Hillage.)
|
Additional hint/tidbits: On the first night, Billy Idol tried to join the ensemble during the encore and was promptly knocked ass over teacup by the bass player, who had a black belt and wasn't afraid to use it. The show ended with two strippers, Policeman and Woman, bumping and grinding while the dozen or so musicians wound up the show.
All in all, must have been a hell of a show. :D |
It WAS a great Gig.....allegedly!!!
It was THE STRANGLERS..............Hugh Cornwall was in Jail and so the most amazing line up of guests took to the stage.
It was in 1980....I think. |
Got it. I didn't know about it until recently, when the CD was finally released and tracks started showing up on WinMX.
OK, here's a truly simple one. On the Anderson/Wakeman/Bruford/Howe tour, Tony Levin started the tour playing bass. (I saw the first show in Memphis, fabulous.) Levin left partway through the tour. Who completed it? |

If I'm right I've got a good question for you. |
You're correct. I didn't get to see Berlin play with AWBH, but I did manage to land the double CD from the San Jose concert. Can't say Berlin filled either Levin's or Squire's shoes, but I guess he held up his end.
New question? Fire away! |
New Question......................
What links:
Terry Riley, The Police, UK and Caravan? |
...working...
|
Well, any time I see a question like this with the Police, I immediately think of Miles Copeland. I was able to find out that Copeland managed Caravan for a while, and had them on his record label as well, so that encouraged me to keep digging, but so far I haven't found anything else of note. Hmmm.
|
Need a clue.
1) You're on the right track with Copeland but Miles????????
2) I'm out of work and I need a Job son! Preferably in the UK. 3) Recording device and fine china in a portable home. 3) Blimey O' Riley. Composer of "In C" but what else has he written? Does that help any? Probably not! :D |
Ach, I think you've given it away.
The Police's Stewart Copeland and UK's Eddie Jobson both played in Curved Air; both were teen prodigies that got their start with CA. The name of the band comes from Terry Riley's "A Rainbow in Curved Air." Band member Michael Wedgwood played with Caravan on two albums. Darryl Way also played with to-be-Caravan-member Dek Messecar. So the connection is Curved Air, right? If so, thanks for the assist. This question was bugging me and my wife all weekend. (Sunday afternoon she got fed up with the whole thing and yelled, "England Dan and John Ford Coley! Just put that as your answer and be damned to it!") Lots of Curved Air connections. Darryl Way played on Tull's Heavy Horses, some Gong albums, and other session work. Francis Monkman was a member of 801 and Sky, among others. Greenslade's drummer Tony Reeves was a member of CA for a bit. Sonja Kristina sang on the original cast album of "Hair," and did a 1971 Christmas gig with the Faces, members of Soft Machine, and others. As you can see, I've garnered some material off the Web to answer this question. Good one! |
Here's one to tide you guys over until the next "good" question.
What single musician links these bands/musicians/outfits? David Sylvain/Japan David Bowie Anubian Lights Hawkwind Thomas Dolby Mike Oldfield Third Ear Band |
Robert Fripp?
|
Hey Max
you still there? Is there anybody......out there?
|
Steve Walsh
I was speaking with Robby (violin) over several drinks after a show in Atlantic City and from what my brain can pull out of that night... he said somethign about Cheap Trick. He said steve played keys for them off stage during one of the tours, but i believe that was during one of the Kansas era's without Steve.
|
Right here. No, not RF. Hawkwind and Bowie are big clues.
|
Agh, what a comedown...from frontman of Kansas to offstage keyboard dude for Cheap Trick.
|
Aw come on, no takers? Do I need to give a hint? Or is it just an uninteresting question?
|
Hey man, I tried - my Fripp answer was wrong. :(
|
You tried, gotta give credit where credit is due. Anyone else? Or should we call this question due to lack of interest? ;)
|
John Paul Jones?
|
Good guess, but no. Hints: he was a full member of Hawkwind for a long time (one of the few true musical virtuosos to play with that band of rapscallions); he played alongside Belew with Bowie.
|
Simon House.
So obvious when you think about it!!!! |
Give it up for da man! Simon House is indeed the answer.
If you really want to amuse yourself with Hawkwind cheese, see if you can find the book "Time of the Hawklords." Simon is one of the major characters. It's a most awful comic book-like thing about the band saving post-apocalyptic Earth from doom and destruction by becoming superheroes, kicking villainous ass, and playing music (theirs is the ONLY music that will keep people sane; meanwhile, the bad guys strike back with Yes, 10CC, Tony Orlando, and other "bad" music). Not just cheese, but spray cheese. :D |
