"There's always been Ethel.
Jacob wake up you've got to tidy your room now.....
And then Mr Lewis.
Isn't it time that he was out on his own?
Over the garden wall.
Two little love birds Coo coo to you.
Keep those mowing blades sharp.........."

or:

"And Harold Demure, who's still not quite sure, fires acorns from out of his sling.
Here comes the cavalry........"

Very of the time...........excellent lyric writing.

My favorite lines from that song are "And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes I'll see you on the dark side of the moon," and "The paper holds their (the lunatics) folded faces to the floor, and everyday the paperboy brings more."

P.S. I LOVE your new avatar! Now that's the Poda I know and love.

"The paper holds their folded faces to the floor and every day the paper boy brings more."

One of the better political/anti-governemt lyrics of Roger Waters.

Just to hijack this thread back to the topic of "sentences", there are a number of great sentences in the lyrics of Pink Floyd. One of my faves from Animals ahs always been, "You radiate cold shafts of broken glass". Oh man, I'd hate to have a run in with that character!

I think I already quoted from that song "And it's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw around." I also like from that album "Charade you are."

i've continually said "i know what i like and i like what i know" some folk get it, since it played on FM radio.

and since we mentioned floyd i love this one from Animals:

"you better watch out!...there may be dogs about!!!!"
and
"you better stay home and do as you're told...get outta the road if you want to grow old"

"Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise"

love the sheep & dogs

I frankly think, that the title of the thread should have been:

The only one most important sentences in prog rock lyrics"

We will end up here with the lyrics of all tunes on AM....

Important is an odd word. Very nebulous.

If I had to pick one lyric, it would be the Who. "Every idea in my head, someone else has said".

Re: The most important sentences in prog rock lyrics

Don't think anyone has mentioned some of the wonderful Moody Blues quotes.

"But I'm never going to lose your precious gift. It will always be that way.
And I know I'm going to find my own peace of mind someday........" New Horizons, Seventh Sojourn.

"Blasting, bursting, billowing forth with the power of 10 billion butterfly sneezes" Higher and Higher, To our Childrens..........

"So fly little bird, up into the clear blue sky.
And carry the word. Love's the only reason why" Land of Make Believe, Seventh Sojourn.

"Bluebird flying high, tell me what you see.
If you could talk to me, what news would you bring?
Of Voices in the sky......." Voices in the sky, In search of the lost chord.

And of Course:

"And I love you. Yes I love you. Oh! how I love you........" Nights in White Satin, Days of Future Past.

Hmmmm....nice to see this thread again.

I've been listening to some CDs I haven't played in a while and the lines that have stuck in my mind for a while now are:

"There's a word and the word is love and it's right for me. It's right for me and the word is love" - Yes, Time and a word.

You can't keep an old hippy down....:D

Haven't read all the entries in this interesting thread, so perhaps this has been entered already:

From King Crimson's Islands

"Beneath the wind-turned wave
Infinite peace...
Islands join hands
'neathe heaven's sea".

Just love that image.

Re: The most important sentences in prog rock lyrics

Seeing as how what might seem important to me might not seem important to you and vice versa, here's mine...

"My zero to your power of ten equals nothing at all". Jethro Tull.

(sorry if this was in a previous thread,no time to go through them all)

dinosaur 01-30-2008 02:31 PM

Re: The most important sentences in prog rock lyrics

Seems I missed this thread first time around, and this may have already been posted, but you gotta consider Tull:

"So you ride yourselves over the fields
and you make all your animal deals
and your wise men don't know how it feels
to be thick as a brick."

Re: The most important sentences in prog rock lyrics

I'm always inspired by this searing irony in Yes' Relayer:

Listen your friends have been broken
They tell us of your poison
Now we know
Kill them give them as they give us
Slay them burn their children's laughter
On to Hell

Anyway, I'm not sure what's important to others, but here's some that hit me right:

"And all your money, won't another minute buy" ...Kansas

"You can go sleep at home tonight, if you can get up and walk away"...Who

"Sadder still to watch it die, than never to have known it".....Rush

"Brave the knife to make em bigger, take a pill to make it harder, suck the fat then run the treadmill, give them toys for time...buy the land then pour the concrete, drive the car but leave the kiddies, break their bones then ask forgiveness, pose while they're in rags"...Salem Hill (So Human)

Sometimes when I look at a post an old page comes up. This was from July 2006, so I think I'll just keep it - saves me the trouble of thinking again!

Dino, Ian's got a million great lines, is true (even Kissing Willie:haha: )

"there is no dark side of the moon really, as a matter of fact it's all dark"

Re: The most important sentences in prog rock lyrics

One of my favorite Andersonisms has always been this one.

Get the idea cross around the track
Underneath the flank of a thoroughbred racing chaser
Getting the feel as a river flows
Would you like to go n' shoot the mountain masses
And here you stand no taller than the grass sees
And should you really chase so hard
The truth of sport plays rings around you

Going for the one
Going for the one

Even for those who speak Jonish, I think this one can be a difficult decipher.
:headscrat

It can't be a list unless you put in some old Marillion:rulez: :)

And so as I patrol in the valley of the shadow of the Tricolour I must fear evil
For I am but mortal and mortals can only die
Asking questions, pleading answers from the nameless faceless watchers
That parade the carpeted corridors of Whitehall
Who orders desecration, mutilation, verbal masturbation in the guarded bureaucratic wombs
Minister, Minister care for your children
Order them not into damnation
To eliminate those who would trespass against you
For whose is the kingdom, the power, the glory for ever and ever
Amen
Amen
Amen
Amen

"Halt who goes there!" - " Death!!"
"Approach ... friend"

Added another one before work :) Sort of rings true this day and age :(

"Death defying, mutilated armies scatter the earth,
Crawling out of dirty holes, their morals, their morals disappear."
