Re: 10 of the best uknown prog albums

I haven't read all the responses, but it seemed to me that a lot of people missed the point. first, I'll list some 10s that aren't from the "big dozen or so", which I think was the original intent:

o Anekdoten - Vemod. A must-own prog album, imho.
o Anglagard - Hybris. Ditto.
o Djam Karet - Burning the Hard City.
o Univers Zero - Uzed. RIO, but somehow accessible...and awesome.

then, some great Canadian prog!

o Maneige - Les Porches. Strong classical influence.
o Sloche - J'un Oeil.
o Sloche - Stadacone. closer to fusion, but still great.
o Karcius - Episodes. this is a great album.

Solid solid albums, but probably not 10s. Still, I can't imagine a prog fan without them.

o Echolyn - As the World.
o Magic Pie - Motions of Desire.
o Ozric Tentacles - pretty much all of their albums belong here. lol

probably missing a ton of albums here. too lazy to go look at my CDs right now. maybe I'll add more later.

And I can never miss an opportunity to plug this band.

1. Il Berlione - Il Berlione.
2. Il Berlione - In 453 Minutes Infernal Cooking.

Pretty much nobody remembers them, but I love this band. Part of the issue is that the band ranges from pretty accessible jazz to RIO, and I think it takes a rare person to like all of it, I guess. I won't put them in the other list, because I wonder if anyone besides me would really like all of their music, but both of these albums are gems, imho. Check other reviews before you buy. There didn't used to be any info about this band on the net but you can find a bit now.

good luck and happy collecting!

Criteria:

1. Albums that are outside of the mainstream areas (Yes, Genesis, Spock's Beard, Flower Kings, etc.) These can be from any country, any time period, etc.

2. Must be relatively devoid of clunkers, no throwaway tracks.

3. International albums are encouraged (obviously)

and last but not least

4. These albums should be your "favorite albums that no one knows about." Go ahead and share!

Lamour, while your list passes the first 3 criteria (and I whole-heartedly agree that the bands/albums you list are great), I think it definitely fails #4 except for Il Berlione. I think the other bands that you list are very familiar to most fans of progressive rock.

-Fukkeduk: Ornithozozy
-Land's End: Pacific Coast Highway
