Just curious. How did you stumble upon Aurul Moon?

I can't remember specifically. I think I was on some ITunes or Real Player radio and just scrolling through the genres. I think Auralmoon was there under Classic Rock, or something. This was probably a couple years ago. Apart from the short flirtation with playing "classical music", it's been really great.

I was friends with the owners of another station and was listening there. When they passed the reins and left the station, the new direction wasn't really up my alley. I was perusing their links section one day, and thought I'd click on the Moon to see what it was all about. This was in Nov. 2003. It might even have been the day Avian brought live chat on board. That first time, I remember clicking on white wondering what that was all about, and meeting keithie and steady stan. I think tee was in there as well. I came away from chatting and listening that day delighted to have found good music and some lovely loonie moonies, and knew that I was parking my rump (and ears) on the moon from now on. :heart:

I discovered it back in High School two years ago. I was in computer class doing the usual stuff we did every day (watch Red vs. Blue, flood the server with obscene messages recorded with our headphones' buillt-in mics, Google Images treasure hunt, etc...). But then, we also had to actually work on some stuff. So when we did we liked to have some music, so we usually hunted for internet radios using shoutcast. Then one day I stumbled upon Aural moon and started to listen to it quite a few times(helped by the fact that it was one of the only radios not to die in like 3 days). Then a few months later I found the actual site, joined the community quietly and began to know a bit about the people who met there. It's only as of late that I regurlarly come here though.

That's my story in a nutshell. :)

As far as i remember (getting old here) I stumbled on Aural Moon in 2001 via radio365 list of stations. I registered under another name and was a listener for a couple of years but i forgot my password.
Only 2 years ago I began to be more active under my present identity and have never looked back, except I've spent a fortune in buying more music that I never knew existed.

I started listening back in 2001 by way of my winamp and shoutcast.com. I couldn't believe there was a station that played stuff I actually wanted to hear. The stream was more music back then. Less voice interuptions. No shows. Maybe Gnosis was on back then but I'n not sure. I remember Star Date being about the only thing other than music and the female voice announcement every now and then that you'd hear during the day. It was like heaven for me. Other streams have come and gone but the AM has carried on.

Started listening to AM back in 1999, when there were about 15 to 30 of us. I vaguely remember the OLD site! Heh, I remember being worried about switching to a new forums format back in 2001!

Found AM through a Yahoo! search for progressive rock radio.

I don't know how or why I decided to surf, but I found Delicious Agony. Great stuff, but heavy on Flower Kings. Then I listened to an interview the owner was doing with Roine Stolt, and she was "caught" in a lie about how she was supposedly at a show in Europe. Roine said something and she said "Oh yeah that show was great", but when pressed on details she fessed up. I thought, "Great just what prog needs a pretentious station" lol...

Actually found the forums (surprise!) of AM first. There was a discussion of "What's your favorite prog song"? I signed up, and replied "Green Eyed Lady". Jim thought I was being cheeky, of the opinion that the song was a bit commercial. After starting off on the wrong foot with my response, Avian, Keith, and maybe Mossy and most likely Spaz (and some Moonies not around anymore) chimed in. I think I had 30 posts in the first week...it was a fun row.

I was listening to spinner.com (back before they started being "All Zappa All The Time"). Eventually they went down that path and we parted ways. It was quite a while where I was completely prog-less. Then I opened iTunes and saw ..."The Net's Progressive Rock Garden."

Urr?

The second song I heard was "The Web" by Marillion, and it was followed in short order by this wild epic that changed time and key signatures more often than my ex wife changed her mind. I was hooked from the word go and haven't looked back since. I like it here.

I found it through the old PRRN, and started listening in '99. Back in, oh, October of 2000 or so, Avian posted on the web site looking for a Program Director and I volunteered. Since then it takes up a lot of my time, but it's generally time well spent. I can remember when we'd get excited to have 20 concurrent listeners...

I was driving in Quincy, MA one night not too far from home when I was trying to figure out a name for the radio station. I told Karen "I know I want it to have moon in it... something Moon. Taco? No. Earthworm? Nope. Then it came to me - Aural Moon. A giant beam came out of the sky and sucked up the car into a spaceship, and that's the last thing I remember. It was June of 1999.

I told my long time friend whos 80s radio station originally inspired me to do this. He responded, "Oral Moon? Hilarious!" I was serious of course.

VAXman posted the address of the station on comp.os.vms, a usenet group, a couple of years ago. I saw the URL and visited the site some time after. I listened anonymously for a few months and then registered.

My adventure with AM starts in 2004 but I visited the page also one year before. But - strange thing - during two or three visits in 2003 Moon seemed silent. WR "attendance" - 0, not many shouts..I wondered if there were secret options opening doors to community or something like that. So accidentally at the beginning I had false impression about AM. After a few months in March 2004 I visited again. Avian, Keithie and someone third was in the BR and this is how all started. I remember KW had a headache :D. Next day there was again KW in chat room and I met Mossy. That was around noon and I was very surprised to read that Mossy listened to AM at night. Hah!! Good old days :). In 2004 European morning crew was extremely active. No sooner after me Jam joined, KW was around every morning so we had a huge amount of faff.

I remember those days. I was wasting my existence at HP at the time. I was part of the European Morning Crowd as well (even if it was 3am local time). We had some wonderful conversations. I remember asking about whether or not the end of Communism actually benefitted the regular folk in Poland like we in the US were hoping it would.

Yes those early morning faffs in 2003/2004 were the only way to start the day. Unfortunately, since I'm on pacific time, I had to get up at 4 am to do it. I managed to do this for about six months, then I got old. I also got married, which, by default, put an end to getting up at 4 am and hopping on the puter. Steady Stan, tee, jamforte, keith, woj, mortis, sometimes rick, vax, the Spaniards siluencar and david, sometimes lotus? Stan got the theme cooking and we had a good time. Dot, I think I was gone from the routine already when you started doing the morning shift. Good memories indeed.:grinz:

I found out about AM by a thread on the Gentle Giant forum, and I tuned in and Gagliarchives was on, and you could even chat with him! AND he was playing music with interesting time sigs and changes...just like the stuff I play at home!! I had to tell Tom how great this was and I was hooked...only limitation is that I don't always have the PC hooked up to speakers or to headphones, but from there, I listened to the regular programming as well. Though this happened a few years ago, I hadn't thought of joining the forum part till maybe last year. I'm hooked here as well! AM has a magic which other prog stations don't, and I have tried other stations...

I wonder what his answer was. Years ago, I was a member of Solidarnosc California. We raised money to help Solidarnosc in Poland. Now that the Commies are mostly out of power, it's interesting to hear that some actually miss the socialism of the old days. Though I should add, it's the security they think they had in those days.

Yes. These were cool discussions. I remember you were also very interested in linguistic matters.

My answer was probably same as I would respond today. No doubt it was good to get rid of communists and socialism. But the spectre of the past is still present today.. I mean..of course there is completely different, better reality now but within decade and a half we didn't manage to repair what had been done during 50 years. Health care still is in fatal condition, roads are poor, some aspects of mentality are echoes from the bad times.

I heard about Aural Moon on the Gagliarchives. But, before the site was redesigned, I had trouble with some of the features on it, so didn't spend any time here.

Recently, I have submitted my CD to be played on Aural Moon, so then came back to the site again. Seems to be working better now and also maybe because I have DSL instead of dial-up. :)

I bought a Turtle Beach AudioTron unit back in 2004 I think and it connects to a Turtle Radio web site to get its internet stations list. They have a bunch of pre-defined stations in several categories (you can make your own lists as well) and Aural Moon was in the Rock list with a link to the web site. I read the description and thought it sounded cool and checked out the stream and was blown away that I found a high quality internet station that plays all the music I like and have been listening ever since.

I found it w/ an AURALTELESCOPE!

Seriously, I think I found it while surfing off of Yesfans...clicked on the PR webring,
to The PRRN stations... I joined about the same time as KW and the Rickster.

My 1st great memory was winning the CDs during the anniversary party,
the 2nd was being honored w/ having my music in rotation (thanks PDJ & Dot!).

Thanks to you guys, it opened the door to the other PRRN stations,
plays on the Gagliarchives (thanks Tom!) a full CD play on Rick's show,
then on Progpos (thanks Rick!)

Davin, Jim, Dot, Vax...Here's to a long future for AM!
BTW- I like the new look. I'm using the Olias style, great stuff!

I had a station there when it was free.. .then they made broadcasters pay... `-( `-( `-( `-( `-( I helped start their website with MY MUSIC!!!! and that was the thanks the original braodcasters got....I signed off.

I first discovered the net's progressive rock garden sometime earlier this year. I was astounded by not only the range of music offered, but the sheer friendliness of members here. I've been gone a few months but I hope none of that has been lost! Nice to see you all again - assuming any of you remember me, haha!

As for me, I found AM in the iTunes tuning list but don't recall when. Listened for a long time and finally registered on the site. Now I wish I hadn't. Auralmoon is a distraction from work but who wants to work anyway? Not me!

That hasn't changed one bit. I'm a bit more wise to the ways of Slavic linguistics (though some of them still leave me a bit confused -- a matter we can discuss when we both have leisure).

Something that I've noticed in observing the emergence of many countries from under the thumb of Lenin's Great Social Experiment is that some are doing better than others. It's a complete and total reversal of mindset from Communism to a Capitalist state of affairs. This isn't going to happen overnight. Countries are having to redesign their entire government/populace interaction. And, people being what they are, the spectre of the NKVD/KGB/Stasi/Whatever being greatly diminished if not outright eliminated, people are going to start looking out much more for themselves without giving any thought to what it might do to anyone else (or, in many cases, knowing and not caring). We in the west have been very fortunate to have most of these kinks worked out years ago. Many places in Eastern Europe and Asia are not so fortunate.

Additionally, most of the former communist nations' citizens were under communist influence for their entire life. They had no clue as to what life was without it, due to the information constraints in place under the Soviets. Thus, they have the taste for freedom, but no inklings of the responsibilities that go along with those freedoms. One that I've noticed that seems to have taken many, especially from the former CIS states (I've seen this in people from Ukraine, Georgia, and Azerbaijan personally) is that the right to succeed in what you want to do also comes with the unspoken right to fail. During communism, failure wasn't an option, so by definition, one succeeded regardless of the success of the project (see Chornobyl for a perfect example of this at an infrastructure level -- that's a report that'll age you very quickly -- almost as quickly as the event did at the citizens of Pripyat'). With the fall of Communism, people got to see failure for what it really was. Unfortunately, a lot of them weren't able to adjust.

The Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) are, of course, exceptions. But then, they've always been exceptions that have annoyed the Russians to no end.

Whee. I haven't had a brain dump like that in a long time.

after discovering you could get music thru the computer i found live365 as well as saw your listing on the progradio.net station listings, listened mostly from home...never went to the site till i got tired of trying to get the music at work and visited hoping for a bit of info...i registered then and finally got music thru windows media player.

then one day in 2003 when you got the new look (gosh i forget what the site looked like before the blue/black design) i was at a seminar and wanted some music during the lunch break...i logged on, saw the new look and the now famous black box registering listeners talking...been great ever since.

everyone was so very nice and down to earth, really wonderful people here.

i love it!

I don't remember.......all I know is it's the first Prog site I landed in and never looked any further. The MOON has changed my life drastically. Bought more CD's in the last yearthan I did in the prior 20 some years. Got back into playing music.............and All is Good!! Love the Moon!!
