Just an idea!!!
A new idea for the forum. A quiz about Prog - but the questions are set by you!
The idea is this- one person sets a question [the answer of which should be achievable and not require too a long post!] People then post their answers in reply- the person with the first correct answer [as judged by the person who set the question] wins- and their prize is to................. Set the next question! No punching, gouging, knives or pistols please - it is for fun!..................... I have set the first question which is: What connects Gentle Giant, Steve Howe, Asia and Greenslade? -----Easy or what? Davin, if you like this idea how about making it a new Forum heading? I promise not to sulk if you tell me to go boil my head!! |
Roger Dean?
|
Right on!!-Roger Dean album covers.
clactdj,
I told you it was easy. Want to post a question?? |
On the track Utopia, on "Todd Rundgren's Utopia" Todd plays a guitar sometimes referred to as "Schizzy". What other famous guitarist owned it?
Extra Points: What band did he play it in, what was the make and model, and why was it called "Schizzy"? |
That was George Harrison's old guitar, right? Mmmm, Beatles maybe?
For some reason, I keep thinking it's Clapton's from the Yardbirds, but I'm pretty certian it was George's. |
No, it wasn't George Harrison's....
|
This is what we want!!!!
Being totally unemployed at the moment I have spent ages trying to suss this out without success. What I have done is buy 3 Utopia albums in the hope that I might get a clue..........no chance!!!!
Nice one clactdj!!!!! |
If you have the album "Todd", there is a picture of him playing it. Like I said, it wasn't GEORGE'S guitar.
Hint: Guitarists and bands like this always rise to the top.... |
The C***M of the crop.
I think it was Eric Clapton amd Cream.
I was leaning towards that as I seem to remember reading something way back...........but as I say it's really just a guess. As to why it's called schizzy I haven't a clue. I know Clapton used to play a bright, multi coloured Fender at one point and can only surmise that this had something to do with it. |
I sure hope this doesn't make me look stupid...
Was it JOHN'S guitar then? John Lennon?
|
Keith guessed correctly. Schizzy was Eric's maroon Gibson SG standard with a psychedelic paint job. I don't think Clapton ever named it. I have heard other guitarists refer to it by that name because Clapton named some of his axes by color. I.E., the black Fender Strat is known as "Blackie".
OK Keith, take it away.... |
Another easy one!!!
Which is the odd one out and why??
King Crimson - Lizard Mike Oldfield - Crises Jon Anderson - Three Ships. Johnny Harris - All to Bring You Morning Yes - Drama Vangelis - See You Later |
"Drama" is the only record in which Jon Anderson does not appear?
Avian |
D'oh!!
I knew it was too easy.
Over to you Avian!!!! If I ever get to pose another question it will be a STINKER I can promise you that!!! |
I got one...
Steve Howe's band Tommorow was the house band in a party scene in a movie back in '68 or '69. While they were playing and being filmed, the bassist got sick and had to go throw-up or something. Name the famous guitarist who just happened to be there and came up and picked up the bass and started jamming with Steve Howe (this is apparently all on tape).
|
Jimi Hendrix
|
Who is this guitarist?
He almost became the guitarist for Jethro Tull aftr Mick Abrams left. However, his equipment was malfunctioning, and he was passed over for Martin Barre. He the went on to found one of the most successful rock bands of all time. Hint: He's also from Blackpool (home of Ian Anderson).
|
I'm going to guess Andy Summers.
|
now that would be cool band!
I can't imagine that pairing - that would be mind-blowing!
One and only hint: think MUCH heavier. Sorry about the misleading info - the band was very successful, but I think I overdid it with the "of all time" comment. |
Dark Sunday
It's Tony Iommi who went on to form Black Sabbath.
I think he was in the band when they recorded the Rolling Stones Rock N' Roll Circus film. |
What prog band was Hendrix considering joining shortly before he died? The invitation was offered.
|
Why, ELP of course (making it HELP). Ha.
Wasn't it that Emerson objected because of his experience in The Nice? Tommy |
nice job keith!
Yes it is Tony. Can't fool a Tull fan!
Wasn't Mitch Mitchell to be the drummer instead of Palmer, and he was all drunk, etc? That's the story I heard. It was to be HELM. |
OK. Next teaser!
Which are the odd ones out and why.
1) Night of the Shamen, Heaven Stone, Village Dance, Snake Goddess. 2) Octave, Days of Future Past, The Present, On the Threshold of a Dream. 3) You, Camembert Electrique, Angels Egg, Flying Teapot. Three correct answers wins. |
1) Night of the Shamen - it's the only one not composed of two words
2) The Present - it's the only one that doesn't have a word starting with the letter 'o' 3) You - it's the only one not composed of two words |
Smart arse !
True but not the answer we're looking for.
Try again.............. |
1) Heaven Stone is the only song not on Distant Echoes
2) The Present is the only album without Michael Pinder 3) Camembert Electrique is the only album not part of Radio Gnome Invisible |
Abso-bloody-lutely!!!
That's it Bob!
Over to you for the next one................... |
What band did Steve Walsh leave to join Kansas?
|
This is tricky!!!
Bob,
I can't find any info on this in any of my books. How about a clue?????? Please!!!!! |
Rodney Roberts of the Jimmie Van Zant Band was also a member of the band. I'm not sure if that will be much help or not.
|
That gave it away (I think)
My Father was in "The Black Watch" regiment when he was in the army.
|
That's it.
|
Steve Walsh
was in a band called "The Skipper and Marianne" where he dressed up as the Skipper from Gilligan's Island and did handstands on his keyboard at all gigs. Marianne was Marianne Faithfull, who is really Britney Spears' mother.
No? April Fools! Just how many Van Zandt's are there anyway??? |
Next Teaser!
What links:
1) A trip to the movies, A Saloon at Dusk and A fight in a Wood East of London? 2) An optical illusion, Nakedness and A stock-still tourist? 3) A state handout, Don't sit down!!! and A musician on a balconey? Explain why. Too easy??? |
Re: Next Teaser!
Quote:
2 - Camel - Mirage, Nude, Stationary Traveler 3 - Jethro Tull - Benefit, Stand Up, Minstrel In The Gallery |
Nice one prgdirjim!!
Absolument!!!
Set a reasonably difficult question, eh? Mine are obviously too easy!!! |
I don't think it was too easy - it took a full day before someone got a response.
Mine will be based on Aural Moon of course. Name: 2 artists from Portugal 1 artist from Estonia 2 artists from Israel and 1 artist from Bahrain all of which we feature on Aural Moon... |
Portugal - Forgotten Suns, Saga
Estonia - Kaseke Israel - Zingale, Ashqelon Quilt Bahrain - Osiris |
hmm, I don't think Saga is from Portugal - I thought Canada - everything else is right.
