RIP Keith Emerson

I suppose most of us have heard about this by now. Very sad news and apparently a suicide. He was having pain due to nerves in his one hand and could only use 8 fingers apparently when playing. He became depressed and this is the result of that. A real tragedy. I guess not all the details have been released yet. RIP Keith.

I was lucky enough to see him on The Brain Salad Surgery tour. Truly a legendary talent. RIP Keith.

Last I heard, no official cause of death had been released. It is probably a suicide, based on the fact that his girlfriend "would not release the cause of death."

Re: RIP Keith Emerson

I was fortunate enough to see Keith live twice. Once was in 2006 I believe at the Colonial theater in Phoenixville PA(same venue where Rosfest was initially held). That show was great. It was his own band but he played mostly ELP tunes if I remember right. The second time was in 2010 at the Keswick theater(Rosfest was briefly held there too). This time it was Keith and Greg Lake but no Carl(Carl only joined them for the high voltage festival that same year). That show was very good also and even featured a Q and A from the audience at one point towards the end(one of the few times I have ever seen that happen at a show). Anyway, RIP Keith.

RIP Keith Emerson,

Your passing has been noted
And your life promoted
You tickled the ivories time and again
Rocking and rolling, and the Prog world would win
Thank you for the pleasant memories of life
And even the organ-abusing knife
You are in our thoughts and prayers
As we enjoy and purchase your wares!

Regards from Texas,
Ted

The darkness of depression can be overwhelming.
Please don't ignore the warning signs.

Are you fucking KIDDING me?

OK, 2016. Enough of this shit.

Seriously, I saw him at Nearfest when he was there last. 2006?

Sheesh.

indeed a tragic loss of one so gifted. self-termination alas grabs another one into it's abyss of no return. it can be difficult to recognize when someone is in it's toxic embrace. look out for one another, be willing to listen. and alas roger it's just the beginning of the year...

we will miss you, but we have the joy of your musical creations for as long as our ears can hear them and pass their brilliance onto another generation.

I ve been keeping a strange feeling these last days after knowing this tragical loss,,, each of us have a unique way to connect him and common place as well,,, I heard for first time Keith Emerson when I was 8 years old,,, 'from the beginning' solo,,, on a tv commercial,,,back '74,,, never forget that amazing or awsome effect it made on me,,
I knew something huge it was happening to my connection with music.. and every time I hear that solo it happens a sort of same effect..

years later,, read a short story told by Jim Hall,,,first time he heard Charlie Christian,,,in his early teens,,, he never forget that feeling and even in his 70s or 80s he felt same effect. Well ;; Hall decided to be a guitar player :-)

That s the magical gift from unique people like Keith Emerson gives to all us.

Cheers amigos !
