no quiz from Jam, so

here's a quickie.

what links Crossroads, Duran Duran, and Dolphins?

Eating Lemur 07-07-2004 02:45 PM

They are mammals?

Yesspaz 07-07-2004 03:07 PM

One's a song, one's a band, and one's a football team?

progdirjim 07-07-2004 04:17 PM

wrong and wrong. the answer is music related, and can be found on Aural Moon...

progdirjim 07-14-2004 07:53 PM

you guys give up so easily?

Rick and Roll 07-14-2004 11:37 PM

Miami?

Her name is Rio and she dances......

Girls on Film........

Save a Prayer for the morning after.....

and I'm hungry like the wolf.....

more?

progdirjim 07-15-2004 11:06 AM

not Miami, though not a bad guess.

each of the three clues hints at a different person that played the same instrument in the answer's band (at different times, I believe)

Yesspaz 07-15-2004 11:43 AM

Mike Keneally

Rick and Roll 07-15-2004 12:40 PM

I guess zappa

but haven't really thought about why......

progdirjim 07-15-2004 02:05 PM

Zappa is the answer, Keneally was a guitarist for Zappa. the other two why's should be easy now...

Rick and Roll 07-15-2004 02:12 PM

i could research and think....

but it's not coming easily to me. Could be Vinnie C. or Ike or anyone........

progdirjim 07-15-2004 02:45 PM

the common thread was Zappa guitarists:

Crossroads - Steve Vai played Jack whoever (the devil's guitarist) in the movie Crossroads (and he kicked Ralph Macchio's punk ass in the contest, despite the Bach bullshit!)

Duran Duran - Warren Cucurullo played guitar for both Zappa and later a reformed Duran Duran

Dolphins - Mike Keneally's band for some time was called Beer For Dolphins....

Rick and Roll 07-15-2004 04:28 PM

that's right

I got Warren and Vinnie mixed up....wasn't Vinnie in Missing Persons with the Bozzios? That Joe's Garage period is fuzzy...

thought Vai was in there somewhere, I'm not a movie buff... sounds like a "Devil went down to Georgia" kind of thing?

Warren and Vinnie (great drummer) and Patrick OHearn as well were all in Missing Persons. I thought the Duran Duran thing was more obscure.

In the climactic scene of "Crossroads", Ralph Macchio has a guitar duel with Steve Vai, the stakes being the soul of an old bluesman harp player who is Macchio's foil throughout the movie. Despite the somewhat predictable ending, it's a pretty entertaining movie.
