Still waiting for Jam

Here's one while we wait...

What do these bands/artists have in common - that I'm thinking of, although I'd doubt there's much more in common with ALL of them other than this thing.

The Beatles
Jethro Tull
Sylvian & Fripp
Peter Gabriel
Phish
Beastie Boys
Steely Dan
The Pixies
Bob Dylan

Obviously not all of these bands are on the Moon.

progdirjim 07-23-2004 03:45 PM

they all recorded on Capitol records? they all ended up in your question?:D

Rick and Roll 07-23-2004 08:22 PM

when it doubt....

say Tony Levin:D

KeithieW 07-26-2004 02:51 AM

Damn you.........

I expect the answer is staring me in the face and I'm going to kick myself when it comes out.

The only thing I can get is that I can buy music by all of them on Amazon. :D

moses 07-26-2004 09:42 AM

Dig deeper

It seems too early for a clue, so I don't have one for you yet.

If they all recorded for Capitol Records, I was not aware of it.

progdirjim 07-26-2004 11:42 AM

they've all used a sitar on a recording?

moses 07-26-2004 12:00 PM

sitar

That's a very interesting guess, Jim. I'm not aware of a Pixies song or a Bob Dylan one with a sitar though. Nor Phish or Beastie Boys, for that matter. It doesn't mean there hasn't been one, but that wasn't the answer I was looking for.

(Note that I said it was an interesting guess, not a close one... Except for the "they've all" part.)

Yesspaz 07-26-2004 01:19 PM

They've all been praised by critics? Ok that was lame, but I'm feeling goofy today, so watch out!

moses 07-28-2004 07:18 AM

OK a clue

I was busy watching out for Yesspaz's goofiness yesterday, but today I'm ready to give a clue.

The answer has less to do with the artist and more to do with their song(s).

I could also add The Flower Kings to that list, along with plenty of others.

Rick and Roll 07-28-2004 07:20 AM

they all cite..

Marianne Faithfull as an influence?

Well Marianne was always up to some MONKEY business wasn't she?

eg:
Peter G - Shock the Monkey
Jethro Tull - Steel Monkey
Flower Kings - Monkey Business

Well that's all I could come up with from the playlist.

Rick and Roll 07-28-2004 09:49 AM

God's Monkey, Sylvian & Fripp
can't remember the Steely Dan, know there's one
Beatles - Everybody's Got Something to hide.....

Not sure (nor do I really care) about others....

Peter Gabriel - Shock the Monkey
