Anatawa nihonjin desu-ka?

Do we have any Japanese members? I'm going to be in Tokyo and Kyoto for much of September, and I would appreciate any leads on music stores that may sell progressive music - Japanese or otherwise....

Arigato gozaimasu!

Yesspaz 08-26-2004 09:53 PM

Holy monkey turds! I don't know about stores, but if you can find some cds I want that cost in the $30-$40 range to import, and if they're "normally" priced there, I'd pay you for them when you got back, pay you for the shipping, and pay you a commission or something. I know you're not going over there to buy music for me, but if you were in the stores and happened across them, well, ya know... :D  :D

progdirjim 08-27-2004 09:23 AM

Well, there's lot of Japanese imports that are ridiculoulsy priced in the states, and I'm hoping they'll be somewhat cheaper there - but give me a list and the upper price limit, and if I find them, I'll pick them up. No commission accepted...

Are you sure Jim? You may be tempted to listen to some of it and you might want to charge insurance on your ears. :D

Rock and roll. Lemme get it completely together, and I'll send it along (should have it later today). When do you leave?

Yesspaz 08-27-2004 11:51 AM

BTW,

Do you speak Japanese?

have a friend...

who lives in Japan. Let me shout out to him to see what he knows. He writes for an English-speaking paper, and writes about entertainment, but he prefers the odd stories (for those of you wh received the "ho" email I sent, that's from him).

I'll check.

progdirjim 08-27-2004 03:43 PM

Arigato gozaimasu, Rick

I don't leave until next Friday Spaz.

Yesspaz 08-28-2004 05:21 PM

Ok, here's the list:

artist - album - cheapest I can find it in $US, from a source I trust anyway

Rovo - Sai - ($23.05)
Rovo - Flage - ($38.71)
Rovo - Pyramid - ($40.98)
Rovo - Pico! - (can't find at all)

Date Course Pentagon Royal Garden - Musical From Chaos - ($25.ish)
Date Course Pentagon Royal Garden - Structure et Force - ($24.00)
Date Course Pentagon Royal Garden - Report From Iron Mountain - ($33.98)
Date Course Pentagon Royal Garden - 3rd/General Representation Products Chain Drastisism 2CD - ($25.ish) [the cover just says DCPRG3/GRPCD2CD]

and finally, a split by these two, in which they each take a 30 min. instrumental...

Rovo/Date Course Pentagon Royal Garden - Sino/Pan-American Beef Stake Art Federations - ($32.00)

Wow. I don't expect you to be hopping all over the islands looking for cds for me, but if you find yourself in a music store and you see the $20ish discs for less than $20, go for it. The ones in the $30 and up range, I'll take for the steal of $25 or less. Thanks, and I'll pay you back as soon as you get home with them!!!

I hit the Rovo jackpot for you Spaz. I found Sai for $17, Flage for $27, and Pico! for $18, at, of all places, Tower Records. 6 stories - the best record store I've been in in my life. And I have to brag a little - the staff didn't speak English, and I was able to locate both these groups even though they were filed under the Japanese alphabet, which is totally phonetic and does not correspond to our alphabet at all. For instance, K, G, and hard C's were all intermingled; soft C, S and Z were all intermingled, and the order of the letters is totally different.

I found the Date Course records, but they were more expensive than you can get them for.

I'll mail the three Rovo's to you when I get home...

Rock and Freakin' Roll! Sweetness! I'll PayPal you the scracth when I next get paid. Awesomeness. Now I just need to locate Pyramid and buy the double live album and I've bought up the Rovo. Well, and the split, which'll be my last Rovo/first DCPRG. Nice. Jim, you rock.

Oh, and feel free to listen to them/add them to AM while you got them!!! :D

I spent a few hours with Wayne last night, drinking beers and eating yakitori. Nice guy. He said to call you a "Baltimoron" :D

actually, he didn't, but he said the word and it gave me the idea...

Rick and Roll 09-11-2004 08:02 AM

guilty as charged

:)

yakitori? some kind of asian meat? :D

As often as I talk to him, I get confused about the time difference. How many hours ahead are you in relation to where you live?

let's see, it's 2:35pm local time here in Japan on the 13th, and my computer is telling me it's 10:35pm on the 12th in San Diego. So that's 16 hours ahead of Pacific Time, or 13 hours ahead of you.

Evanzan 09-13-2004 11:05 AM

Well, you can count me as a jealous bastard. What I would give to rifle through some of their secondhand games stores!

Yeah, that's it, I'm gonna have to go get some Sushi this week. Mmmm, Tuna.

Indeed. Tommy, you done flung a craving on me.

Yesspaz 10-02-2004 01:31 PM

Jim, I just got the three Rovo discs today. Thanks bud. Haven't had a chance to listen yet. Also got the latest P.O.D. and the original self-titled World Trade disc, which is Billy Sherwood's band.

I just realized I never answered this. Yakitori is a cooking style - can be almost any kind of food, skewered and grilled or bar-b-cued. We had chicken, meatballs, ginko nuts, chili peppers, and maybe something else. It was quite good...
