How to Listen on Firefox?

I recently switched from Internet Explorer to Firefox. Nearly all web sites work fine, EXCEPT this one. And even all the pages here work fine, EXCEPT when I click the "listen (24K)" link. I get no music, just this page:

[playlist]
Numberofentries=2
File1=http://live.str3am.com:2020/
Title1=Aural Moon: 24k Main
File2=http://live.str3am.com:2010/
Title2=Aural Moon: 56k Main
Length1=-1
Version=2

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I don't trust IE anymore and don't want to use it. And I have disabled the popup blocker for this website, so I'm able to see such things as "What's Playing Now" just fine using Firefox.

Actually, I'm using Firefox on a PC. Does anyone have any ideas?

Bob Lentil 09-06-2004 03:56 PM

I downloaded Firefox to check it out, and I'm having the same problem. It appears that it doesn't recognize the file extension and is treating it as a plain text file. I don't know how to get around it at the moment other than just sending the link directly to a media player like podakayne said.

Hi,

I'm using Firefox too and the only way to play Auralmoon I've found is to Save the .pls file to my desktop and open it with xmms (or any other player). Well it isn't a solution, but so I can connect to Auralmoon without opening the browser ;) .

Sorry for my poor english.

PS: This is my first post in the forum. Hi to all moonies.

iTunes

iTunes is available for PC's as well as macs... any PC user that I know that has tried it, loves it!

I did a little bit of research and the consensus seems to be that this sort of problem is most commonly caused by the web server being set to the incorrect MIME type.

Here's some stolen generic info about MIME: MIME means Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions, and refers to an official Internet standard that specifies how messages must be formatted so that they can be exchanged between different email systems. MIME is a very flexible format, permitting one to include virtually any type of file or document in an email message. Specifically, MIME messages can contain text, images, audio, video, or other application-specific data.

Internet Explorer (before XP service pack 2) uses the file extension to determine what to use to play a media file, so it's not affected. Firefox, however, uses the web server's MIME type setting to determine what to do with the file. I messed around with Firefox's MIME settings a little bit and couldn't get it to work at AM, but when I went to another similar internet radio station Firefox did work. Therefore, I'm guessing this is an AM web server problem as opposed to a Firefox problem. Also, according to what I've read, anybody using IE and Windows XP with service pack 2 installed should be having the same problems.

*Bob Lentil sits and waits for his theory to be debunked.*

download iTunes for PC

http://www.apple.com/itunes/

you will enjoy it

Thank you all. I found that simply writing http://www.auralmoon.com/html/main24k.pls into Real Player does the job, so I no longer have any need for virus-prone Internet Explorer.

Getting freer from Bill Gates every day!

P.S. This post submitted via Firefox!

I bet that's the problem, and I bet it started when AM switched web servers. On the old webserver, it was easy to just add MIME types witha control panel. Maybe Roger can magic it.

Dr. Dot would just say get freer from Bill Gates everyday. Switch to iTunes and Aural Moon is already programed @ 56k under the Classic Rock channel. Right, Dr Dot? :D

Yah, I can magic it. It's an entry in the httpd.conf file. No big problem, I don't believe.

Either httpd.conf or one of the other conf files. I'm not sure which and I can't get to AM from work (the admins are even more anal here than they were at HP, if you can believe it!)

I have no idea why I didn't see this post earlier. My bad, mea culpa, etc, yadda yadda.

To answer your question: Right. Wholeheartedly and completely right. Without a doubt. Both Windows AND Mac versions have Aural Moon programmed in. That's how I found AM to begin with. After spinner.com's progressive channel went to an All Zappa All The Time format (every other song was either Zappa or MOI), I gave up on streaming prog for a long time.

Then I found the moon. Heaven.

Now we just need to make sure that AM doesn't turn into All FK All The Time.

Anyway, back to the subject. iTunes is free, it has Aural Moon at 56k AND 24k programmed in, and is a snap to install.

Did I mention it was free?
