Music Suggestions
 

I would really, really like to get as many music suggestions for "The Planetarium" as possible. We've put the word out, and we hope you'll do the same, to gather as many submissions as possible for the show. Think of music you've heard in the syndicated programs "Hearts of Space", "Echoes", and "Musical Starstreams" and you're headed in the right direction

What artists would you recommend for the show?

I can't quite tell what kinda genre/s your going for BUT

I reckon some Brian Eno and Sigur Ros would fit the discription you gave in the other thread

Thanks! You're on the right track - ambient, space music, "new age" (I hate that term), and the like.

UPDATE: Cool - it'd be nice to hear that sorta music on here.... Yeah 'new age' is such a generic yet limiting term for a musical genre...

I. Um, try a lot of the spacier side of Tarentel. You can check out such tracks from the library as:

Fear of Bridges 1-6
Welcome
Tarentel 1
The Waltz
Adonai
Popol Vuh

II. There's a band called "Stars of the Lid" that'd be good. go to http://epitonic.com and search them out (free mp3s). At that same site check out "A Small Good Thing" and "Labradford."

III. Definitley not Blink 182.

IV. A lot of Mike Oldfield's output could fit this genre. I'm specifically thinking of "The Songs of Distant Earth" and "Tres Lunas."



That's off the top of my head... I'll drop more if I think of it.

Oh, and...
 

Oh, and some of the driftier type Krautrock, such as latter-day Tangerine Dream and such.

Great that your show is to air soon. I know it's something you've been wanting to do for a while and I'm really glad it's come to fruition. I will definitely be tuning in.

A band/track that might do the biz is "Angel Earth"'s track 'Circle of love'.

Also, Rick Wakeman's "Zodiaque" album might fit the bill.

Try some of the TD progeny too. For example, Klaus Schultze's "Searching" is rather ambient.

The Lark Ascending is awesome, Williams music is very "pastoral and ambient sounding.

Lot of good picks here, I'll add to the Steve Roach bin with Desert Solitaire and The Magnificent Void, looking forward to the show!

What did I say?

Some of the more ambient Djam Karet, particularly from "The Devouring" and "Burning the Hard City."

Stomu Yamash'ta is a good choice -- if you can find "Freedom is Frightening," try that, too.

Tom Verlaine's "Warm and Cool." Wonderful album.

Steve Naive's "It's Raining Somewhere" -- nice piano. Goes well with Moraz/Bruford and Hackett/Hackett's Satie recordings.

Fripp and Eno. Also Harold Budd, Jon Hassell, and Michael Brook.

Byrne's "Catherine Wheel" would go well with the previously suggested "Bush of Ghosts." Even some Talking Heads tracks like "The Overload" or "Drugs."

Some of Pink Floyd's old film recordings such as "Cirrus."

Damn, I forget what else I put down.

I agree, but these two are heavy...I think there are 2-4 that are ambiant in nature...

Most of the tracks on those albums are fairly heavy, but several tracks stand out as being quite -- well, okay, not ambient, but mellow. DK's most ambient album is "Suspension and Displacement," but I'm just not that fond of that album.

There are also 1-2 tracks from "A Night for Baku" that might fit, and a couple from "Ascension" and "New Dark Age." They'll take some listening and some sorting for Avian to make his decision, but they're worth it. A couple of examples: "Topanga Sunrise" fits a more upbeat, jazzy mood; "Feast of Ashes" a more somber sound.
