Tangerine Dream..........

TD, best electro band on the Moon....................discuss!

IMHO they don't get any better. Electronic Meditation through to Logos have to be modern masterpieces of the genre.

Flame on!!!!!!!

I thougt TD was a disease :D

I have 46 CD's with TD plus some LP's that I haven't as yet ripped

I first heard TD on Joh Peels Top Gear in the early seventies where he plugged Phaedra. I've been hooked on then ever since although not so much in the beginning. My heyday on TD was in the eighties where I loved Underwater Sunlight, Tyger, Tangram, Force Majure, Poland, Optical Race and the Parks LP. In the nineties they've gone down hill towards true commercialism which is now obious theses last years with the dream mixes.

There is nobody like them and they were kings of EM creating their own special atmosphear. I've never seen them live unfortunately as their live shows are so different and you never know what to expect.

I have just got Zeit on CD and will look more closely at the seventies era

Don't you mean "only" electro band on the Moon? I can' think of many 100% keyboard artists save Jean-Michel Jarre, but he's not a band. There are lots of other Kraut bands though, and TD is not even in the top three (knowing that many don't consider TD Kraut). Hmm... Kraftwerk. Yeah, TD beats Kraftwerk.

It is difficult to find anyone to commpare them to.And maybe that's why they are the "best". No one dared approach or imitate! Hmmm... no sooner do I write that than I recall hearing something on the Moon that [i]was[/I} imitative, and good!!

The very early electronic music was so experimental too, like Simeon's Silver Apples (nice update interview at http://www.terrascope.org/silver.html) I remember someone lending me the LP when I was about 16-17, and it was shiney and silver, and the sounds that came out of the groove were so weird, they were scarey!!

I was much more into TDs early work (Phaedra, Rubycon, etc) and didn't keep up with their later work. I filled in a big hole a couple of years ago when I saw all sorts of titles (90s era I believe) in an overstock bin... haven't been as taken with it though...

I haven't heard it in years, but I seem to remember the Sorcerer soundtrack being as good a TD album as the next for the 70s. Can we get it on the Moon??

where do I start?

For a variety of reasons, they passed me by. I do remember them being more away from ambient on some of their music.

Can someone enlighten me as to which ones are more of that style, and I can work from there? I really want to at least give them a listen when I am old and seasoned (as opposed to young and distracted).

Thanks!
