One short of half-century

The story of KW

The tension was rising at Lord's cricket ground. The opposition was getting the upper free hand and thinking of the power and the glory of winning the match. The crowd was jeering and Keithe W the batsman at the one end was thinking "Man, this is going to be hard work to survive here. He looked at the scoreboard and saw 48 not out to his name - "Can I just make to 49 and then fifty - a half century" - Keith looked up to the heavens in thought and heard the declicate sound of thunder in the distance. "On no it musn't rain"
The over was over and his partner Rick came up and said "Right are you ready? Going for the one?" " Will do, peeps" replied Keith and went back to his mark.
The opposition had changed the bowling and now the opening deamon Jo was on agian. He stood there polishing the ball glaring at Keith "You're gonna need your national health card when I'm finished with you - you'll be not of this world" he smeared through his teeth, brushing his long hair away. He went bak to his mark and turned and started the charge.

Keith took his mark and looked at the frothing mass charging towards him. "on No" he thought "my one size fits all protective box is slipping - what do I do?"

"Nothing" siad his inner voice "never let go of the bat - Just hit him - he ain't no member of the polite force, just one of the rotters club"
Jo thundered in, delivered a shot ball that whoosed right by where Spock's beard would have been and lande in the keeper's gloves. "Great'un Jo, give him another" the fielders shouted. Keith looked at the long haired umpire, who was unmoved. "He's thinking about his Guinness again. He'll count a seven ball over too. Must hit this one"
Jo came charging in again and bowled a blistering ball that struck Keith on the toe defying the art of levitation. The bowler jumped in the air turning to the umpire screaming "Ooooowaaaaaathatttttttt" "To be frank, not out" The ball meanwhile had disappeared behind square and Rick shouted "Yes" - Keith spurted down the pitch and made it to the other end. The umpire did nothing - A curious feeling went through Keith as he looked to the open sky and thought "Wow this is big time - I'm 49 not out - Now for the half century"

Suddenly things went black. He heard Pam shouting "Wake up keith You.re beyond dreams now. Suppers ready".........

Happy birthday tomorrow Keith and have a great day- And if you want your birthday present then everyone must find all the band references and album titles mentioned somewhere in the story.........

The Satriani is "Not of this Earth". Not sure if Rogor would be mentioning a Satriani record.

Is that scream from Marillion's Incubus?

And is the umpire vaxman?;)

and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I would go back and see what I wrote last year, but that's cheating.

Trudy and I wish you the happiest of birthdays...there are no better souls than you, my friend.

Close To The Edge

Happy Birthday to you KeithieW !

As I am about 6 months closer to the edge than you my friend, I wish you all the happiness, joy and celebratory madness that this, your last year before you officially attain "Old Fart" status, will bring you. Wish I could be there to help you celebrate. I know you're gonna have a kick-in-the-ass time!!!

:o Seasons will pass you by.....:o

Kev

ps: Did you ever feel like you got ripped off by having you b-day and x-mas coincide? One of my best friends has his on the 25th. He always hated that.

Happy Birthday KW as well as Merry Christmas. Hope you have a great birthday and a wonderful holiday season. I'll make sure as I'm out today that I stop and lift a pint in your honor. If nothing else, when I do that for a Moonies birthday it makes my wife wonder of I've gone totally mad. Sometimes she just doesn't understand.
Have a great day my friend from over the pond.:)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KEITHIE!!!!

progdirjim 12-25-2004 12:33 AM

oh yeah, and tell Steve I said he'd better buy you a pint or he's a cheapskate. And when's his birthday? Maybe that'll be my next visit...

RogorMortis 12-28-2004 10:21 AM

Last chance for Keithie

Well it seems poor keithie will have to wait until next year for his present as there still album titles to be found in the story.

To Jimbo I will point out that two of the titles are not correct in what I have thought (Santrini and Aregon) - so try again.

C'mon it has to be tough to find the last one.

Belated but...

Yikes! How did I miss this thread? How did I miss your Birthday?

Martha and I were just talking about spending next Christmas season in the UK so we can attend your 1/2 Century celebration.

Anyhow,...

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!
