Your Dream Band

Make a band, with any member of your choice, preferably from the same era.

Lead Vocals - Peter Gabriel - Genesis
Lead Guitar: Backing/lead Vocals - David Gilmour - Pink Floyd
2nd Guitar - Alex Lifeson - Rush
Bass - Geddy Lee - Rush
Keyboards/Synths/Mellotron - Rick Wakeman - Yes
Drums/Percussion: Neil Peart - Rush

Name of the band would be "Rubycon Sunrise"

In my ideal setting they would beable to work together to make incredible music.. Obviously all this was impossible. So its just my dream.

I decided to go with Geddy, because the more I think about it. Roger Waters would not be willing to share power with the rest of the band. They all have egos to an extent, but none as great as Roger.

Neil Peart, and Peter Gabriel would do the bulk of the lyric writing

David, Rick, Alex, and Geddy would focus on the music.

My only other worry is that Im not sure how David would take Peters onstage antics, the costumes etc.
Hes a pretty big no-nonsense guy, so he might not deal with that well.

Well there's a ton of combinations/issues that I could comment on there, but being an amateur lyricist I'll pick this one. My first reaction was, "wow, what potential", but I don't think those two could work together because they're both too good. I'm not sure how two men who express themselves so well individually could collaborate. Plus, stylistically they're somewhat different. But a hell of a fun thought nonetheless...

(David Gilmour lead guitar, Alex Lifeson 2nd guitar? :hrm: )

I find most combinations like this work poorly. It's like playing fantasy prog.

The only band to come close in my opinion is Platypus, mainly because they made a cohesive record and didn't try to force feed a jam. And maybe Transatlantic, although the whole was not equal to the sum of the parts.

You need either a dominant person/sound or a musician that works well and adds to the band. Someone like Stu Hamm for bass. He adds to everyone.

Well its just my dream band, I like to think in my mind that it would work.
But anyway, your supposed to come up with your own Dream band, not rip my dreams apart.

Re: Your Dream Band

This is fun!

Vocals: Orson Welles (Doing narratives, no singing)
Bass: Trey Gunn
Guitar: Edgar Froese
Keyboards: Peter Baumann
Percussions: Jamie Muir AND Hasse Bruniusson

Moody, dark, soundscape-rock with interconnecting narratives (or surrealist spoken word stuff).

This is what <Insert band name I haven't come up with yet> would be all about.

Because I screwed up, and got that by accident, and it wont let me change it. I wanted a question mark or something.

I doubt they'd get past the sessions, they'd kill each other!:boxing:
