Show 134 - Nearfest 2007

airing Sunday, June 17 from 8-11 EST and Monday, June 18 from 1-4 EST.

Next weekend it's the 9th annual Northeast Art Rock Festival, and this will be the first of two shows that will spotlight the great gathering of progressive rock fans from literally everywhere.

I was thinking about doing another Queen show...... :)

This week we'll hear six of the artists performing at this year's festival, and songs from official live releases from past artists. Next week is almost all of the music from the Nearfest DVD "Rising to the Surface", from 2005.

Izz - Rose Colored Lenses 3:41
Deafening Silence 21:35

Two songs from their latest, "My River Flows". Izz has now perfomed at Rosfest, Progday, and the Nearfest pre-show. This year they get a regular slot.

NeBelNest - Nova Express 15:35

Some avant-garde tuneage.

Magenta - Gluttony 12:06
Children of the Sun 19:18

A great band to see live, their Rosfest performance was one of the greats. A song from one of my favs, "Seven", and an earlier epic.

Hawkwind - Seven By Seven 8:53
Paranoia 12:16
Shouldn't Do That 5:02

They'll be one of the headliners this year.

Pure Reason Revolution -

Apprentice of the Universe 4:16
The Bright Ambassadors of Morning 11:56
Nimos & Tambos 3:44

I hope they've gotten better live - I saw them at Summers' End in the UK in September (wow was it only last year?) and they were disappointing. Loud and garbled. But the CD is awesome. Looking forward to hearing them redeem themselves.

Magma -

Irs Lansei Doia 11:46
Hortz fur dehn Stek ehn West 10:17

Well, this is their second time headlining the festival, so someone likes them!

Djam Karet - All Clear 8:55

The first of three acts that I'll feature that have live releases from Nearfest. I can't believe that was six years ago....One of many acts I've seen at Orion, you MUST see them, if they ever play anywhere again.

Hidria Spacefolk -

Astrobahn 8:05
Kokkola 7:25

This was from the 2004 show, from their "Live Eleven AM" CD. A fun bunch of guys, Kokkola happens to be my two cats' names put together. That may be the most useless piece of information you'll ever hear this side of Paris Hilton.

Steve Hackett - Everyday 7:08

From his incredible live CD from 2002. Probably my favorite guitar moment ever in the studio, live's no slouch either!

Kokkola is a city in Finland. Whether the song has something to do with it, I don't know. At least the guys have played there:

-Methem, listening to Monsieur Jarre, Houston-Lyon live...

Hey Methem, how's it going? Been a while...

I'm sure it's the city...gotta be. I saw Oulu mentioned somewhere and now I can't place it....

That picture of Spock as a DJ is hilarious....

Steve Hackett - Everyday 7:08

Hawkwind's "Paranoia" is out, due to the recording sounding awful.

To replace,iIn between the second Hidria song and Everyday, are two more Hackett live Nearfest songs - an abbreviated version of "Firth of Firth", and a great rendition of "Spectral Mornings".

I like the last three artists very much; never heard them before, only the name. The rest was not my cup of tea but Rick is still my no. 1 monday-night-entertainer. :-)

In all seriousness, effusive praise and conversely, scathing criticism both make me a bit uncomfortable...

but really, what is there to do in Hamburg on a Monday night? :eureka:

Of course, if I use the same door as you fit your wide arse through, I'd have no trouble at all! :-V :flutter:

*grin* too much compliments?
Well, I am a child of the 80's and grew up with punk and metal and came to prog only with Dream Theater and Spock's Beard. So it is very interesting what kind of suggestions Rick and all the other moonies will have every day.

What is here to do on a Tuesday night? I know that Rogor is now just around the corner with Peter Gabriel. But 75 euros is too much for me.
I am still working on my Finetune lists.
