Re: North East Art Rock Festival - NEARfest (2008)
It looks as though I'm going to have to bail out of NEARfest this year. Due to a couple of unexpected expenses, and the general crap of the economy, it's just not affordable.
But I do have a room booked at the Hotel Bethlehem. It's not real close to the venue, but it is on the same street as the Brew Works where a lot of people go to hang prior to and after the show. If you're needing a place to stay, I might be able to turn my reservation over to you. Just send me a note if you're interested. I'm gonna hold it until April 5, then I'm going to cancel it. Now, I have to look forward to Prog Day :yougo |

I got my tiket today. I'm looking forward to it. I'll be there for the music first and foremost. I know some of you go mainly just to party but for me it's about the music. This is a very solid lineup and should be great. Three bands I have seen before(RMI, Echolyn and Banco).

I saw RMI at a church at the University of Pennsylvania campus in Philly as part of the Gatherings concert series they have there. It is sponsored by a radio program called Stars End hosted by Chuck VanZyl on 88.5 wxpn. The particular show I saw wasn't recorded though. Pretty much everyone there seemed to be a prog head. I even recognized several people. I think they appeal to prog fans more than most electronic bands do because they use mellotrons.

I believe the one you saw was right after the one I saw. Starting with Steve Roach I think Nearfest has started a tradition of getting Electronic/space/ambient groups which is a good thing in my book. Maybe next year Klaus Shulze will play if he isn't retired. ;) If not him maybe Brian Eno. This year I guess NF technically has two that fit into this category. Not just RMI but also Synergy(Larry Fast). |
