Rickter Scale Show 206

airing Sunday, December 14 from 8-11 PM EST and Monday, December 15 from 1-4 PM EST

Despite my best efforts to pare down my activities, I seem to be sinking in the abyss of responsibility. In other words I'm stressing out on life a bit. So just a few words about this show - it's mainly some music that's been piling up or recently added to my collection that I thought I'd share.

Tiles - selections from "Window Dressing" (2004):

Window Dressing
All She Knows
Capture the Flag
Stop Gap
Slippers In The Snow
Spindrift

Took me awhile to get this fantastic record - have seen this Detroit-area band a couple of times, and it's high energy, precise rock. The title cut is 17 minutes of differing styles. Next week we will hear some live Tiles from a Progressive Showcase recorded in Ohio, and it's smoking!

from the Cleveland Progfest 2004:

Rare Blend - Lost 7/8
KMOB - Violent Relaxation
Intra - Caveat Emptor

This was given to me to play by my friend Teri, who's out and about with the music scene up there. I think I've had this since....3RP maybe - takes me a while :) Also on the recording is Rick Ray, who was also at the above-mentioned showcase (also given to me by Teri). Instead of playing his contribution from the 2004 Progfest, we'll hear...

selections from Rick Ray - "Violence Marred By Peace" (2008):

Sgt. Pepperspray
Matthew
Tribute To Old What's His Name

The most recent music from the always political and socially biting Rick Ray. And incredibly prolific, too. And a couple more from Teri's archives...

Random Order - from s/t:

Basket Case
Red Menace
Hell Happens

Three of the four cuts from this CD:

Angular, demanding music that's got a lot going on.

Gravity - "Visions Within" (2006):
Bring Me To Life
New Beginning
Sweep
War Drums
Winds of Change

Excellent young musicians from Cleveland, this is pure instrumental metal. Nothing cheesy, just 3-6 minute precise rock songs.

Asturias - "Brilliant Streams" (1989):

Highland
Nostalgia
Rogus
Brilliant Streams

As promised from last week, Yoh Ohyama's masterpiece. The title cut has quickly floated to the top of the Rick Favorites pool.

Next week is the final installment of the 2008 shows, with music by a good cross-section of the music released this year. Don't forget to vote in the poll!

Thanks Rick.
Today I can't join well because of my work...but I spent joyful time with you and Moonies.

Asturias is a Japanese pride and treasure. ;)

As you are!

By the way, Gravity sent me a note thanking me for the airplay and promising to send their latest release. If you hear something you like, and have time, drop the artist a line via their email of myspace, etc. I don't always alert the artists ahead of time, and they are very appreciative of the support. It's a small thing seemingly, but goes a long way as most musicians aren't in it for the money.
