May 4 & 5 - A Textured Finish

I. Less than a year before Dark Side of The Moon, Pink Floyd showcased their most developed sound so far with 'Obscured By Clouds' ('72). Blending dark themes, their early spacey pastoral sound, and more concise writing makes this release standout as Pink Floyd's least appreciated album.

Obscured by Clouds (Gilmour/Waters) - 3:05
When You're In (Gilmour/Mason/Waters/Wright) - 2:31
Burning Bridges (Waters/Wright) - 3:30
The Gold It's in the... (Gilmour/Waters) - 3:08
Wot's... Uh the Deal (Gilmour/Waters) - 5:09
Mudmen (Gilmour/Wright) - 4:18
Childhood's End (Gilmour) - 4:33
Free Four (Waters/Wright) - 4:16
Stay (Waters/Wright) - 4:07
Absolutely Curtains (Gilmour/Mason/Waters/Wright) - 5:51
II. The 'Concert Classics' release of Kraftwerk in concert from 1975 is unprecedented as the first commercially available recording of Kraftwerk live. Presenting two from Autobahn and a further two from the earlier albums, this album shows a truer picture of the music behind the machines.

Kometenmelodie (Kraftwerk) - 11:49
Autobahn (Kraftwerk) - 21:54
KlingKlang (Kraftwerk) - 10:10
Tanzmusic (Kraftwerk) - 4:16
III. Air's '10,000 Hz Legend' ('01) catches Dunckel & Godin pushing the Air sound further into commercial territory. While this harder electronic sound lends itself more easily to the airwaves than the previous album, it still presents the carefree beauty that their music has come to symbolize.

Electronic Performers (Dunckel/Godin) - 5:36
How Does It Make You Feel? (Dunckel/Godin) - 4:37
Radio #1 (Dunckel/Godin) - 4:22
The Vagabond (Dunckel/Godin) performed by Air / Beck - 5:37
Radian (Dunckel/Godin) - 7:37
Lucky and Unhappy (Dunckel/Godin) - 4:31
Sex Born Poison (Dunckel/Godin) - 6:18
People in the City (Dunckel/Godin) - 4:57
Wonder Milky Bitch (Dunckel/Godin) - 5:50
Don't Be Light (Dunckel/Godin) - 6:19
Caramel Prisoner (Dunckel/Godin) - 4:58
IV. What a strange album, although so compelling that I can't turn it off. Robert Wyatt's 'Ruth Is Stranger Than Richard' ('75) stands confidently alongside it's progressive contemporaries with it's own unique aspect (Robert's voice?) and at the same time, a sound that belonged to everyone."
Side Richard
Muddy Mouse (a) (Frith/Wyatt) - :50
Solar Flares (Wyatt) - 5:35
Muddy Mouse (b) (Frith/Wyatt) - :50
5 Black Notes and 1 White Note (Offenbach/Wyatt) - 4:58
Muddy Mouse (c) (Firth/Wyatt) - 6:11

Side Ruth
Soup Song (Hopper/Wyatt) - 5:00
Sonia (Feza) - 4:12
Team Spirit (MacCormick/Manzanera/Wyatt) - 8:26
Song for Ché (Haden) - 3:36
Floyd's least appreciated album?

I'd have to say that Floyd's least appreciated album is The Final Cut. People loate this album. I, however, like it tremendously.

Yeah, you're right about that, but ObC is one of the few unappreciated ones that I can play here w/o hearing gripes about Roger. And yes, I agree with you about Final Cut, it's my favorite Roger-centric album outside of Pros & Cons (which might as well be Roger's 2nd solo album).

This IS a strange album but great all the same. Roberts voice is so quirky it has a real charm to it.

I also love his "Rock bottom" album......probably more so.

As I'm typing I'm listening to the track 'Little Red Riding Hood Hit The Road'. Great sound! Trumpets, backwards recordings, Ivor Cutler's narration.............bloody wonderful avant garde stuff.

This album would definitely grace the AM playlists with no trouble at all.

What about it Jim?

Yes, Robert's voice is definitely the most compelling thing about his music, other than the instrumentation. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that this is my only RW album, but that's soon to be remedied.

What happened to Kraftwerk?

I heard the little announcement about the Kraftwerk coming up, then about 45 seconds of Kraftwerk, then it cuts to the announcement about Air? Technical problems I presume?

No, this was actually just a short concert they played ala John Cage where all four songs were compressed into a span of about 52 seconds.

Actually, I have no idea what happened there. Unfortunately, as it's not all live, it's hard to go back without interrupting the flow of the show. All I can say right now is tune in tomorrow morning for the repeat broadcast. I'm sorry y'all, I wish I knew what happened there.

Hmmm.. I noticed that too. The software was having problems at the time, resulting in the subscriber stream being disabled, but it seemed to play songs just fine... it could be a bad mp3 I suppose - we'll find out this morning.

Kometenmelodie - Rock!

Ok, it looks like the Kraftwerk performance is moving along nicely. They just got through Kometenmelodie, so it looks like there are no problems this morning.

How odd. I wonder what might have happened to it last night.

p.s. two weeks from now, we're Going For Baroque
