Emerson Lake & Palmer

If Emerson Lake & Palmer would have added a guitarplayer they should most certainly have smoked every band on the prog scene in the 70s and now. They did pretty good without a guitarplayer but I cant help thinking about what would have sounded like with a sharp axeman.
Anyone else that has an oppinion about this?
:D

Hmmmm

Emerson, Lake, Palmer, and Lifeson? Interesting idea :)

The material was written for keyboard lead...so had there been a lead guitarist, the material might have been different in the first place. Me...I'm a keyboard man...gimme a B-3 and a Mellotron and all things are possible!:p

Hendrix

Funny. . . .There was a rumor about 30 years ago that Jimi Hendrix would play guitar with ELP ( making it HELP- Hendrix, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer). Too bad Jimi died before anything could be arranged.

Howe

I have heard that Keith Emerson expressed a heavy interest in recruiting Howe in the embyonic stages of the band that became ELP.

Yes! It is indeed true that Jimi wanted to join ELP after he saw them perform at the 'Isle of Wight' festival, in 1970. Plans were actually made with ELP for Jimi to join. We would probably be refering to ELP as HELP right now, hadn't Jimi died just weeks after this.

Good God man, could you imagine!

Things play out the way they're supposed to...

If it had happened, would we have Trilogy or Brain Salad? The musical styles were different...Jimi's roots were still in the "black experience"...Emerson was (and still is) totally bent toward classical...we might have lost more than we would have gained... think about it.

Things do indeed work out as they're supposed to.

In the early '80s, Emerson and Jack Bruce asked Rabin to join them. He said no, and went with Squire and White. There was yet another chance for Emerson to team up with a formidable axe-man, and without having missed Trilogy and Brain Salad Surgery (not that I'm an ELP fan). Of course, then we wouldn't have 90125-onward.

Also, did you know Rabin jammed with Howe, Downes, Palmer, and Wetton in the original line-up of Asia, but didn't join because the two guitarists couldn't get along? Hmm... Little did either know that they would share the stage 10 years later?

Yesspaz out...
