July Poll!
Time for another Moonster vote for DRH Album Feature. The options this week are all from the 1980s.
Buggles - Adventures in Modern Recording From 1981, this is the second and last Buggles album, released after the dissolution of the Drama line-up of Yes, before Downes joined Asia. Nice prog-related obscurity. Midnight Oil - Diesel and Dust From 1987, this is the biggest album by the best Australian band (IMO). Boston - Third Stage From 1986, this third Boston album had one huge hit, but the album as a whole is an under-known gem. It's still Boston's most "futuristic" sounding work. Funkadelic - The Electric Spanking of War Babies From 1981, this is the last true Parliament Funkadelic album - the end of an era. After this, Parliament fragmented in a dozen different projects. This is the only P-Funk album to feature Sly Stone. |
Re: July Poll!
I voted for Midnight Oil because I've always liked it and because I haven't heard it in a long time. My brother had it. I like the Boston album but I own it so I can listen to it whenever I want. I'd say it's maybe on par with "don't look back." Their first of course is the best as overplayed as it is(kind of like the first Cars album that way).

Re: July Poll!
Boston for me
|
Re: July Poll!
Funk it, let's go with an album I've never heard.
|
Re: July Poll!
I picked Midnight Oil because I'm unfamiliar with it and I'm not thrilled with the other 3 choices.
|
Re: July Poll!
If it ain't Funk... 8-) It's junk... :hmph:

Re: July Poll!
Boston

Re: July Poll!
It took me more time to decide to vote,,,because it would be a vote by discard,,,
I do not vote that way, an exception this time I thought,,it would be my small tribute to Brad Delp... fantastic singer Even I think it s not a good álbum to me,,,,and considering I m big fan of their 2 first albums,,my vote goes to Boston. Buggles and Midnight Oil,,what I ve heard just anecdotal,,, barely heard them,,and not interested at all and Funk and Funkadelic ,,no thanks. |
Re: July Poll!
and given this poll I also do not forget Tom Scholz ,,, Boston sound came a lot of his mind ,, actually I remember back late 80s Tom Scholz s Rockman,,if some of you play electric ,you know what I m talking about,,
anyway,, trivia for this poll https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYXgfzVjrTw |
Re: July Poll!
I'd love to hear all four, however since I'm least familiar with the Funkadelic my vote goes there!
|
Re: July Poll!
Bump.

Re: July Poll!
this vote seems to me it s more kind of discard than anything else,,,,

delicious distortion tube amp sound,,,and player strong foot in blues really nice amigo but given I m not a fan of funk ,,not sure if you can find more of this kind of stuff on it,,, even I enjoy of Bootsy Collins playing or Maceo Parker solos,,even Bernard Purdie,,,super influential drummer,,,but whole picture not my thing hug for you amigo gracias ! new to me this track |
Re: July Poll!
is it still possible reverse this voting,,,? I think not,,, Funk s winning by a head ,, and two from my choice...big surprise
|
Re: July Poll!
I voted for Funkadelic because it most suits the spirit I had in mind when I created the concept of the DRH. In a selfish way, and it's my idea so there! haha
Midnight Oil is a great album, but I own it and have played it a lot. The other two albums are "meh" for me |
Re: July Poll!
nuff said boss! make my funk the P funk...and so true the end of an era...
|
Re: July Poll!
good ideas to walk out of trodden paths :-)
|
Re: July Poll!
I liked 'meh' concept,,cristal !!!
,,, all these albums are 'meh',,,as I said,, my small tribute to B Delp,,great singer,,my vote was basically that. still always I ve been far away from funk,, even listening sometimes some nice things. |
