Dream Theater

Hi Jim!
It would be great if you could ad some DT to the playlist. I know that some consider them too heavy, but they are a good progband as well. My sugestions are:
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (2002)
Metropolis P2 - Sceens from a Memory (1999)
Images And Words (1992)

Thanks, Pontus N

Oh I'm calm. I'm actually one of those people that are for adding DT. But I'm not like, ADD IT OR ELSE!!!. I only know about four of their songs anyway. I just laugh whenever it comes up. And yes, I do believe that this is Round Five.

Add DT, don't add DT. I don't care one way or the other....

It's not about heaviness (King Crimson is heavier), it's something else... don't know exactly what. There are Liquid Tension Experiment songs on the list that you can request if you want something DT-ish.

Also, search the forum before posting a suggestion.

progressive

There is no doubt that DT is progressive. Their style is just heavy, that's all. I personally don't like them much. The singer totally sucks as far as I'm concerned. But I do respect the others in the band as great musicians and the music itself as progressive. A lot of progressive listeners do like them. Consequently, they should be given attention here at AM.

Rick and Roll 12-11-2003 01:23 PM

Finally!

That's the post that sums it up, uzeb. Perfect! I happen to think a lot of Sabbath, Maiden, Savatage, things like that are progressive too.

Whether it gets on AM doesn't concern me either, but I like the use of the word "attention".

Nice job!

oh, but there is doubt. specifically, the station manager and program director are plagued with doubts

they are given plenty of attention in the forums - every few months, the same arguments and suggestions get rehashed. But here's what cracks me up. I would think one look at our playlist would indicate that Avian and I are at least passingly familiar with the prog world. Do people really think we're unaware of Dream Theater?

EP Tommy sent me some hand picked DT tracks, which I am seriously considering adding. I'm just afraid we'll get even more "you need to add MORE Dream Theater" posts. argh!

Hee hee Ha Ha Hardy Har Har! I can just see it now, "Why don't you add all of DT's side projects and every song they ever listened too?"

Yeah, that is a bit of a dillema. Hell, at least the vast majority of the argument would be over.

Of course, we'll always be swatting down the No More/More Dream Theater threads. So, I don't think the discussion will ever go away in either case. You will probably just continue to put your foot down on no further songs that are un-approved and such is the nature of enabling people to make requests.

Oh, and if you do put them in, there are some 2 or 3 excellent pieces off of the last two albums that I think would fit also :D

(actually, I'm not joking) . . . (or am I?) . . . (really, they're awesome!) . . . (or is this just another clever ploy to drag out the thread?)

I have Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (and really like it). Which songs were you thinking of? Is the new CD any good?

(I say this in all seriousness while knowing that progdirjim is pulling his hair out :D)

I really like the new album, but it has a more direct metal influence on 75% of the material. The one I'd suggest as of now:

Train of Thought - Stream of Consciousness [instrumental]

Maybe one more from 6DoIT, but I haven't listened to it in a while. On the whole, that one is more experimental. Stream of Consciousness is right up AMs alley though. Excellent song with some obvious King Crimson influence.

Of course, if any DT songs are added, get ready to hear those few tracks over and over, and over

Yeah, my literary got bent about two years ago. I keep trying to get it straightened out, but it seems to be hopeless.

NR (now reading): C.S. Lewis, "Mere Christianity"

Oh - and the topic - just mho - skip the Dream Theater, I can hear it plenty of other places, if I'm so inclined. Which I'm not, generally speaking.
