Feb 22 & 23 - Merry Post-Christmas Extended Jubilation

These are all albums I recieved for christmas in the last two years. While they share no other commonality, I find that the three balance each other quite nicely. In my mind, that is reason enough to join them together. Hopefully you will agree.

****************************

I. Darwin! (Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso) 1972

This album is perfection at work. Imagine a band that would make ELP scared. That band would be Banco.

L'Evoluzione (Nocenzi) - 17:00
La Conquista Della Posizione Eretta (Nocenzi) - 10:00
La Danza Dei Grandi Rettili (Nocenzi) - 4:05
Cento Mani, Cento Occhi (Nocenzi) - 5:58
750,000 Anni Fa...L'Amore? (Nocenzi) - 8:00
Misere Alla Storia (Nocenzi) - 6:18
Ed Ora Io Domando Tempo Al Tempo (Ed Egli Mi Risponde... Non Ne Ho!) (Nocenzi) - 3:24
II. Clockwork Orange (Wendy Carlos) 1972

From the first moment I saw the Kerova Milk Bar and heard Wendy Carlos' marvelous interpretation of Beethoven's Ode To Joy, I knew this album must be mine. Easily rectified. The excerpt from Purcell's Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary is my favorite interpretation on the album.

Timesteps (Carlos) - 13:50
March from a Clockwork Orange - 7:00
Title Music from a Clockwork Orange (Carlos/Elkind) - 2:21
La Gazza Ladra (Rossini) - 5:50
Theme from a Clockwork Orange (Carlos/Elkind) - 1:44
Scherzo, Ninth Symphony: Second Movement (Van Beethoven) - 4:52
William Tell Overture [Abridged] (Rossini) - 1:17
Orange Minuet (Carlos) - 2:35
Biblical Daydreams (Carlos/Elkind) - 2:06
Country Lane (Carlos/Elkind) - 4:43
III. Castalia (Cast) 2001

Although I am still woefully undereducated about Cast, this is a great live album. From what I've read about this album, I understand that it is a quality representation of the band's precious work. If you're wondering about the sound, I'd equate it with the Flower Kings or maybe early Marillion.

Introduction - 4:20
Hidden Poems - 9:20
Legacy Medley - 12:20
Simple Things - 4:00
Revealing Signs of Love - 7:00
Reality or Misanthropy Medley: Initiation, Echoes, After all - 17:15
Moving Universe - 9:30
Switched on Bach

Wendy Carlos' album reminds me of a vinyl I bought at a thrift store called "Switched on Bach," in which famous Bach pieces are played on the "new electronic synthesizer technology." It's an early "experiment" in electronic music, and quite fun....

Very good show. I was very impressed with the Cast album. Keep up the good work.

"Switched On Bach" (1968) was one of Carlos' albums, although it was probably credited to Walter Carlos instead of Wendy (Hint: Walter Carlos is not Wendy's brother).

In the same way that Dee Palmer is NOT Ex Jethro Tull Keys man/orchestrator David Palmer's sister.
