Edgar Burroughs is accredited with the first use of the term “heavy metal” in his book
Jungle Tales of Tarzan in1919. The real HM movement got going with Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin & Deep Purple in 1969-70, thereafter a whole wave of US and UK bands based on the similar compositional principles laid down by these 3 came along, many of which still survive today.

I believe the lyrics to
Born To Be Wild go like this
I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space
