I've been searching the web a bit regarding Azam Ali, apparently she doesn't always sing in real languages, she has her own phonetic musical language she uses with her band Vas (and perhaps elsewhere) and since I don't speak Arabic, Farsi or Urdu which she also uses for singing, I wouldn't know whether she's using a real language or not. All I know is I love her voice! Her latest solo record has some songs in English as does her upcoming release with a band called Roseland (which will be all English I think). She is also part of the band Niyaz. I like all of it, but so far my favorites are Niyaz and her solo work. She has contributed her voice to film soundtracks for The Children Of Dune, The Matrix Revolutions, Earthsea and The Dawn Of The Dead and perhaps others. In addition to her own website that Rick posted previously, here's a link to the Niyaz site:

Here's a couple QT video links of her performing with Niyaz for those that are interested:

She also plays santour (a Persian instrument similar to hammered dulcimer) and studied it for about 5 years. Her santour teacher heard her sing one day and encouraged her to develop her voice, and for that I'm ever grateful

. She plays finger cymbals in the first Niyaz link above as well. She currently lives in LA.
There's some other cool artists on her label as well, so here's a link to Six Degrees Records homepage for good measure:
