I used to feel that way about bands. Not anymore, it depends on the situation. It really is dependent on the band and the show. I was never one to pine for something that once was. You'll never hear me ask for a Genesis reunion. But not because they "had their time", but because it would not work, and the musicians are too disconnected now. Also, I would never seen Queen with Paul Rogers.
Wishbone Ash however, married the old stuff with newer material that pleased everyone. I've been to many many shows and the crowd was as happy as I have ever seen one. I think that speaks volumes.
The only weird thing was Andy Powell singing Mart Turner's lines. But Muddy (guitarist) was too loud in the mix anyway so it wasn't too distinguishable
