Tabula Rasa was a great find for me... I ended up at a bar (which is odd since I don't drink) one night to see a friend's band (whose music I don't really like) when they were opening for the Pittsburgh band Tabula Rasa. I'm from Pittsburgh(ish) and I'd never heard them. Well my friend's band was ok but Tabula Rasa really impressed me. I got their "The Role of Smith" cd that night.
Check them out at
http://www.dork.com/tabularasa/index.html - there is a video there of one of their songs(not the very best one imo), plus a link to some mp3s I think. (It's very odd since when I go to their site from home, the mp3 link is not there, but it is at work. Maybe work makes me hallucinate.)
Anyhow, it's what they call "punk, post-punk, hardcore, post-hardcore, rock, indie rock, math rock, emo, screamo, or whatever else clever sub-genre you would like to call us!" I'd say it's good loud(mostly) music. I hear the post-rock and math rock stuff in there, not so much punk. They're too tight and complex to be punk.
